Jobless rate falls. And that's the bad news

U.S. April hiring slows, jobless rate falls to 8.1 percent - Yahoo! Finance
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Employers cut back on hiring in April and the jobless rate fell as people gave up the hunt for work, a somber note on the economy that could hurt President Barack Obama's re-election chances.

Employers added just 115,000 workers to their payrolls last month, the Labor Department said on Friday.

It was the third straight month in which hiring slowed, keeping fears alive that the U.S. economy is losing momentum. It also dampens hopes that a stretch of strong winter hiring signaled a turning point for the recovery.

"It shows sluggish growth," said John Doyle, currency strategist at Tempus Consulting in Washington.

The unemployment rate ticked a tenth of a point lower to 8.1 percent, a three-year low, as people left the workforce. The jobless rate is derived from a separate survey of households, which showed a drop in the number of jobs in April.

Under Bush teh Dems complained about a "jobless recovery". Under Obama we've got a "workerless recovery" as people drop out of the workforce. Ironically this makes UE look better.
But the story behind the story is that people are discouraged. The weakest recovery on record. The highest spending. Do we really need 4 more years of this?

People are maxing out on unemployment in masses.

Once you max out your unemployment you're no longer factored into the "unemployment" formula - you end up in a singularity.

Surely even YOU, after years on this board, know that the above is a lie.

People are really asking for this simple definition?

Unemployment - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As defined by the International Labour Organization, "unemployed workers" are those who are currently not working but are willing and able to work for pay, currently available to work, and have actively searched for work.[68] Individuals who are actively seeking job placement must make the effort to: be in contact with an employer, have job interviews, contact job placement agencies, send out resumes, submit applications, respond to advertisements, or some other means of active job searching within the prior four weeks.

AP survey: Job gains favor Obama's re-election

The presidential contest between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney will probably come down to one thing: the unemployment rate and where it's headed.

If that's the case, and many pundits/experts have said it is, the incumbent Obama has the advantage according to a new survey by The Associated Press.

Paul Wiseman reports on an AP survey of 32 leading economists, "who think the recovery will manage to reduce unemployment to 7.9 percent by Election Day from 8.2 percent in March."

Historically, that would boost President Obama's prospects as "no president has lost re-election when the unemployment rate dropped in the two years before the election."

dear idiot, It was also the worst downturn since the GD.

jesus you people are dishonest

Well that is what the Left likes to say
to make themselves feel better

But Reagan inherited a bad equal in many ways to Papa Obama
and he did more, faster, better and spend less money than
Papa Obama

So

Obama isn't working

WHAT????????

Reagan ran up the fucking deficit and in no way had an economy as bad as this

This is the worst recovery in modern history.

Women absorbed 92% of the Obama job losses and over half of young black men are unemployed.

Which begs the question for our resident Libtards:

How's that hopey changey thingy workin out for ya?

recovery my left nut... according to the GDP numbers, the recession never ended.

Wait what?! We've had 11 straight quarters of economic growth and the recession ended in the summer of 2009.

Cool for Obama. Jobs are being created, and in the private sector. It's pretty cool that more jobs are now out there, than when Our President took office.

Except, historically speaking, the worse the recession, the more robust the recoveries.

But with our wealth and job creators fearing the next shoe dropping from our Marxist POTUS, we are stalled.

But no worries. There will be an EXPLOSION in investment and jobs when the clear and present danger of the Obama Regime is no more after November!

1. While the economy added 115,000 net jobs in April, some 350,000 Americans gave up looking for work. That has the effect of reducing the unemployment rate because, by the federal government's calculation, those people no longer count as part of the labor force. As a result, the share of Americans who are part of the labor force – either working or actively looking for work – has reached a 30-year low.

2. "The 8 percent that we see for unemployment is not a full and fair picture of unemployment," says Scot Melland, president and CEO of Dice Holdings, which runs specialized career websites in the technology, financial services, and health-care industries. If the participation rate were at normal levels, the unemployment would be above 11 percent, by one estimate.

3. In the first four months, the private sector added 827,000 jobs; government lost 24,000. In the private sector itself, industries are moving at different speeds. Professional and business services have added 267,000 jobs; construction, only 12,000.

To be technical, 173,000 people stopped looking for work (to be more technical that's the net change) and 169,000 people stopped working and have not (yet?) started looking for work (again, net change).

It's a litltle misleading of the media to portray it as all people no longer looking....about half never started.

Jobs are always created in the private sector. But net job creation isnt enough to keep up with people entering the workforce. It is pitiful. It is a disgrace. It gives the lie to any notion that any of Obama's economic programs worked in the slightest. If he had played golf every day he was in office we would be seeing better numbers than this.
And check the labor participation rate. There are fewer people working who are eligible to work than before he took office.
