We moved to New Hampshire a couple of years ago, and at the time, we had NO IDEA that we would be living near a town (Belmont) that is "infamous" as the home of Richard Pavlick, a retired postal worker who came VERY close to assassinating John F. Kennedy back in December of 1960.

During all of the JFK 50th anniversary assassination programming last November, we first learned of Pavlick and his attempt on JFK's life in a documentary about the attempt.

Then, just last week, the History Channel program "Mysteries At The Museum" had a segment about Pavlick, and they spotlighted the Belmont Public Library and museum. They showed some present-day video of the Belmont Public Library and some video of the downtown area of Belmont, which is a typical small New Hampshire town.

The History Channel not only talked about Pavlick, but they also highlighted the then-Postmaster of Belmont, Thomas Murphy, who received several bizarre post cards from Pavlick and ultimately contacted the FBI, who arrested Pavlick in Palm Beach, Florida.

Thomas Murphy received a commendation for his actions, and "Mysteries At The Museum" showed the commendation pin that Murphy received, which is on display at the Belmont Public Library.

Pavlick was arrested in his car outside of the Kennedy compound in Palm Beach, Florida, where he was found with several sticks of dynamite and a pushbutton detonator. Back in 1960, a person could buy dynamite at their local hardware store (believe it or not).

The ONLY reason that Pavlick did not assassinate Kennedy was that Pavlick did not want to kill Jackie or Caroline, and he never got the opportunity to get JFK alone without his wife and daughter.

It just makes you wonder what would have happened had Pavlick been successful, and how that act would have changed history.

Pavlick was found to be insane. Possibly age related dementia (he was 73 years old). Left winger twenty something John Hinckley was as sane as anyone walking the streets today but liberals giggled as he was found not guilty of the attempted assassination of President Reagan by reason of insanity.

Insane people don't differentiate between killing women and children.

You can't prove a negative. How do we know he differentiated?

What negative? We know he differentiated according to the OP.

Apparently Pavlick like Jackie and Caroline.

His beef was with JFK.

I am amazed that this attempt on JFK was never really publicized until this year. I have been a JFK assassination "enthusiast" for about 45 years, and I never heard of Richard Pavlick until this year.
