He was the de facto leader of the Republican party and reenergized the party into a renaissance. He was an extremely formidable opponent for President Clinton (who was himself an extremely formidable opponent) and stood his ground at every turn. The impeachment of Clinton was probably his biggest mistake, but even still he survived it better than most would have. Most importantly, Gingrich and Clinton, despite being political adversaries, never stopped working together for the good of the American people. That cannot be said of Pelosi.
