Is it still a thunderstorm...

Q: Is it possible to have a lightning storm without thunder? Or a thunderstorm without lightning?

A: It's not really possible to have lightning without thunder or the other way around. Sometimes the storm can be so far away you can see the lightning and not hear the thunder, but the thunder is still there nonetheless. A "thunderstorm" without lightning is just a regular shower.

Our resource pages about lightning and thunderstorms have links to much more about this.

Yanna del, if you're gonna give us pop quizzes on the night before the Super Bowl, they should at least be nacho-intensive.

LOL.

if there's rain and lightning but no actual thunder?

very strange; i believe it's the end times.

It just means that you have gone deaf.

Here's another test...can you hear this guy yelling at you?

no. it is not.

True it cannot be since it has been a while since he posted that and time still marches on.

Interesting too that he said end of times as in plural.
Please elaborate on the plural time thing Del.

I do not recall seeing you in any alternate realities...

Meh. Seen em before. Lightning storms are kinda cool actually. Thermoclines can muffle or even block sound if they are strong enough, but it's rare

As said before, lightning storms. I remember one time I was in Kansas City for a conference and there was purple lightning all over the pace. Very cool.
