In reality, we backed the Northern Alliance to drive the Taliban and al Queda to the Talibanistan region of Pakistan. Then we invaded, occupied and tried our hand at nation building in Iraq. Didn't work out too well. Now they have another Islamic Republic alligned with Iran.

We elected President Obama, and another election will take place next year.
