IRANIAN GEN SOLEIMANI PROMOTED U.S.-ISIS ALLIANCE CONSPIRACY THEORY

A well-heard narrative appeared Monday that an Iranian General took shots at President Obama and U.S. foreign policy, with outlets such as Reuters and the Associated Press (AP) featuring his comments as a blistering rebuke of the United States’ presence in the Middle East. The narrative presented in the reports became widely promulgated and featured throughout domestic and international media.

Unfortunately, both Reuters and the AP failed to accurately represent the premise of the General’s remarks.

The mainstream media outlets led readers to believe that IRGC Quds Force commander, Major General Qassem Soleimani–a man revered by supporters of the dictatorship in Iran–seemed frustrated with America’s lack of initiative in the Middle East. Soleimani said that the U.S. had “no will” in fighting ISIS, and that President Obama “has not done a damn thing so far to confront [ISIS].”

But what Reuters and the AP only vaguely mentioned was the fact that Soleimani’s remarks were premised on a conspiracy that the United States had struck an alliance with the Islamic State terror group, while driving home his solution: that only Iran could be responsible for “saving” the Middle East.
