    The artists you've listed may have been good in the genre of music they played, but they are not soul music. James Brown has always been considered 'King of Soul'

    James Brown is known as both the godfather of soul and as the king of soul.
    None of the ones you listed do soul music they're Pop and Country.

    No, he’s The Godfather. The King of Soul is Otis Reading, although you would get a ton of votes for Marvin Gaye and Sam Cooke, and even Wilson Pickett.
