I've been to Cancun and drove down to the Myian ruins in southern Quintana Roo, no problems,,,,There is a rebellion going on by the Chiapas Indians over neglect of the populace...

I once toyed with the idea of moving to Puerto Rico or Belize. Lots cheaper to live in either one.

We have a friend who moved to Thailand when he retired. The medical care is better than here and a lot cheaper. And, living expenses are much loser as well.

It's cheaper probably because there are less jobs and the jobs don't pay as well. So there's the dilemma.
