So there is little doubt that the ice age scare of the 70's actually happened...and everyone who was anyone in climate science was onboard with that scare. The attempt by warmers to erase this embarrassment from history is understandable, but luckily for all of us, the CIA documented the players and their positions at the time.
According to a CIA report in 1974, outlining the state of climate science, the consensus position, and the ramifications to national security if the predictions came to pass, all of the relevant agencies....agencies who were researching the climate were in agreement that a new little ice age was on its way...the report further outlines the groundwork being laid by the scare for the formation of the climate science establishment as it exists today.
As chronicled by the CIA...NOAA was onboard with the cooling prediction....NCAR was onboard with the cooling prediction....the National Academy of Science was onboard with the prediction of cooling....the National Science Foundation was onboard with the prediction of cooling, CRU at East Anglia was onboard with the predicted cooling, and the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory at Princeton was onboard with the predicted cooling.
n the summer of 1973, the Wisconsin Plan for Climate Research was presented to the National Security Council. NOAA and the National Science Foundation were requested to review this plan to suggest how it should be implemented. The Wisconsin plan stimulated activity in many agencies.
So the CIA documents the fact that NOAA, NCAR, the National Academy of Science, the National Science Foundation, CRU, and the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory were all in agreement that a cooling phase was on the way.
The only semi coherent claim anyone has made with regard to these agencies being documented by the CIA as being onboard with the cooling scare is that the CIA says whatever the hell it wants to in order to get its way (much as climate science does today) and that the rest of climate science was predicting warming.
My question to the warmers is "Exactly who else was there actively researching climate science to any real degree? I mean we have NOAA, NCAR, NAS, NSF, CRU, and GFDL were all in agreement that cooling was on the way...who else was there in 1974?

CIA [B said:]In the Fall of 1973, three agencies sin the government became active in the development of climatic research plans: NSF, NOAA and the National Academy of Sciences. The National Academy of Sciences established the Committee on Climatic Variation, chaired by Dr Larry Gates. The committed members completed tier recommendations for a National Climatic Research Plan in June of 1974. This plan is presently under assessment by the National Academy of Sciences. Its final approval is expected late this year. Early in 1974 NOAA began developing a plan which would include a Center for Climatic and Environmental Assessment as suggested by preliminary recommendations from the National Academy of Sciences Committee
CIA said:Leaders in climatology and economics are in agreement that a climatic change is taking place and that it has already caused major economic problems throughout the world. As it becomes more apparent to the nations around the world that the current trend is indeed a long term reality, new alignments will be made among nations to insure a secure supply of food resources.
