I Guess Wisconsin Dems Don't Like Democracy

Sometimes you have to go to extremes when someone is trying to strip you of your rights, just ask the Tunisians, Egyptians and Libyans. This isn't about the monetary aspect, but about stripping people of rights. Anyone who enjoys a paid vacation, sick pay, the eight hour day and 40 hour week, union or non-union, should be concerned by this power-grab on the part of WI Reps.

The Wisconsin quorum rule is a defacto supermajority rule. Kind of like the filibuster rule.

Are you saying the filibuster is anti-democracy??

This isn't a filibuster. A filibuster is when you have the courage to show up and try to prevent legislation from being passed.

When they show up, then you can call it a filibuster.

What they're doing should be against the law. If they stay away long enough it may just be.

Filibustering is the minority using a procedural rule to prevent legislation passing that would in fact pass with a simple majority.

I will however note your description of the filibuster as courageous in the event we see a GOP 50 something majority in the Senate in 2012.:lol::lol:

I think you're confusing me with somebody else.

Following the rules is more honest and thus more admirable then breaking them.

Btw; it's gonna be difficuilt to convince the public that Democrats aren't attempting to shut down the fed gov in a couple of weeks when their brethren are doing it in two states and possibly more at this writing.

The public is wise to their games so a repeat of the 90s standoff that helped Clinton is very unlikely.

How do you think it will turn out?

Is all of this shit even necessary?

I always told you democrats are the "gimmie gimmie" crowd.. I always asked them what plan B was when the "gimmies" out numbered the "givers" I guess we'll find out soon.

I would like to take credit for this but i can't.

I heard some guy on the radio calling the pantywaist cowardly WI Dimocrats Fleabaggers in response to their hiding in a cheap no tell motel.

Great pun.

Power grab....? The "power grab" that you refer to is only the WILL OF THE PEOPLE who duly and democratically elected Republicans to change things in Wisconsin....elections have consequences...

That Wisconsin election was DEMOCRACY in action.....NOT the sniveling dimwit fleebaggers hiding out from their elected duties...which btw is not "extreme" as in Egypt or elsewhere....try to put a little perspective in your life...

You're confusing rights with contracts and agreements.

By law the state can file for bankruptcy and scrap all of the collective bargaining agreements.

They don't want to do that, but it's an option.

I wonder why you can't be arrested for filibustering, but you can be arrested for running away from your elected position?

NYCarabineer doesn't understand why they had to leave the State to effectively kill the quorum. It is because the Sgt. At Arms has already issued arrest warrants for them which are enforceable should they ever return to Wisconsin.

So forcing people to vote at gunpoint is Democracy here?

lol you people get dumber every day.

Look, the quorum 3/5ths rule is stupid. The Wisconsin legislature, whenever it implemented that rule, screwed up. Now they're finding out they screwed up.

My understanding is they need a quorum of 20 reps to pass any thing with financial ramnifications....such as the pension/health benefits...

However they can still start passing other laws that aren't financial.....i heard they are talking about passing a law that people in Wisconsin must show a photo ID when going to vote.....something the Dimwits have been against for a long time...maybe it's a good thing the Fleebaggers are out of town.....

Guess we're finding out that the trouble with Socialism is indeed you eventually run out of other people's money.

To summarize:

The Dems are evil.

No, they aren't.

Yea, they are.

No, they aren't.

Yea, this is solving the problems our country faces. It's no wonder our politicians behave like children.

I Guess Wisconsin Dems Don't Like Democracy

Keep guessing.

It's way easier than actually learning anything.

What's to learn. Cut and run when you know you can't win????

Excellent point.

Guess the Repugs should have left Washington bawling and crying when the Dems decided to force Obamacare, the Stimulus, financial reform, and everything else they crammed down our throats.

It's funny. Your representatives pull a childish stunt or act amoral and you cheer for them.

When our representatives pull this shit we get rid of them.

You deserve the kind of government you expect dumb-ass. If it blows up in your face who can you blame?

I know....Booooooooooooooooosh.

No, you're finding what happens when the capitalist money interests get the upper hand and squeeze every nickel they can out of the middle and working classes.

We are a nation in decline. We're losing our middle class, and our working class's relative prosperity. This whole brouhaha is nothing more than a desperate fight over diminishing resources and opportunity.

A prosperous nation with a prosperous working/middle class, and with a bright future, doesn't throw tantrums just because its teachers and policemen and firefighters want to make a good living.

As long as they can keep us blaming each other, they can keep us from seeing who the real enemy is.

You knew it was wrong all along. Now all the states are broke and all you want to do is blame the other guy.. not working, not buying,,you limousine liberals sugar tit is drying up.

The middle class is is shrinking because of inflation and higher taxes. Not just federal but state and local taxes.

Compare your bills, compare your grocery expenses. You'd be surprised how much everything has gone up.

Nonsense. Taxes are lower than they've been in 50 years. You forgot, half of American households pay no federal income taxes. Why? Because of low wages and massive tax cuts.

The states are 'broke' because we just had one of the worst recessions in history. That's all this is about. You get a huge tax revenue loss from increased unemployment, massive declines in the value of property, foreclosures, business cutback, of course you're going to have a cyclical problem.
You exacerbate that systemically by continuing to ship good paying jobs overseas. Every good paying job that disappears is one less job that generates tax revenue. Why do you think half of Americans pay no federal taxes, and for matter, little or no state taxes?

Because they don't earn that much money.

Blaming our teachers, police, firefighters, and the rest of those who work for us in the public sector is nothing more than a desperate attempt to scapegoat someone, anyone,

who can simplistically be blamed for all that is wrong with America, and, conveniently,

isn't YOU. Scapegoating is always about the other guy.

Epic Fail

Taxation without representation, forced servitude to an abusive monarchy, and the attempt at removal of the right to bear arms led to the American Revolution, not free pensions and health care.

Excuse me very much. I'm listening to the politicians on all levels. They say public employee unions are breaking the bank, They can't pay them anymore. Are you listening? or desperately searching around to make it not true.. This isn't Utopia yet.. cold hard fact is this.. someone said it yesterday... "you can't tax a union member enough to pay his salary" know what that means?? means we the taxpayers have to bear the burden and it looks as if we are tired of it.
