I can't believe Arizona passed a anti-sexting law.

While it can be a very private thing, it nearly always becomes a very public thing. It is dangerous and needs to be stop
I have a good many private pics on my cell and the very computer I'm typing from which have never became public.

Anyone I've sent similar pictures too have also been discrete enough with them that I've never seen them come up publicly.

(and they're probably funny enough I would have seen them!)

If they want to outlaw it, why cant they?

We can. It's just not a good idea. Tagging the kids with a criminal record is just compounding an already stupid activity and situation. I can't imagine that it's actually going to HELP anything. I'm not sure what the twits who came up with this think it's going to accomplish.

Wait! Stupid activity!?!?! Naughty letters between husbands in the military and wives at home are stupid activity?

Or is the line drawn because these are teens? What if I want to encourage my teen to do WHATEVER on the phone and very little in person where some permanent bad can come if it?

No one gets pregnant or catches an STD over the phone.

Make it illegal for a teener to have a texting or vid capable cell phone.

A whole new market for cellphones. Blingy personalized basic (cheaper to build and serve) cell phones for teeners.

Sexting does seem like child porn. You wouldn't let your 14 year post nude photos anywhere. So this law seems appropriate.

Yep underage sex is underage sex as long as either or both of the participants are underage.
In my opion anyway.

But phonesex is just the lead in sin....

The whole point of the Republic is that a majority will rule.
I come at it from a different point of view. The whole flaw of a Republic is majority rule. The extreme examples are if the majority want slavery should it be legal? What if the majority hates jews or anal sex?

It just depends on whether or not you think people as a group are capable of finding the good, decent, moral thing to do, and if you think they're more capable of that than a monarchy or oligarchy with absolute power is. Furthermore, it seems very just to me that people get whatever government they truly deserve, by virtue of making it themselves. If that turns out to be bad, then it is incumbent on the people who realize that to change it, and at least a republic gives them the means to do so.

I KNEW they were a bunch of closet big government lovers who thinks the police belong in our bedrooms!

Tell the girl that's what she gets for sending her picture around. That way she learns a lesson she'll have to remember in this digital world.

If an adult sends a pic of someone who is obviously a minor back and forth punish the adult.

Big government? no. I just think the states have the right to govern as they choose. Hence why i support the Constitution in limiting the powers of the Federal government and keeping a majority power with the States and the People.

If people of a certain State want to pass a law that some think is stupid, why shouldnt they? The whole point of the Republic is that a majority will rule.

That doesn't mean any law passed by that state is OK. I live in AZ and I don't agree with it for many reasons. The biggest reason is that there should be a lot of freedom to our behaviors and even if those behaviors are outragious like sexting.

Really? You just turned a private behavior between two teenagers into a misdomeaner.
Arizona does not make sex between two minors a crime?

No we don't and no we shouldn't pass such a stupid law for many reasons. It infringes of the free-will of individuals to choose their own course. Even if it is a bad course they still have the right to choose and some parents (who should be showcased on Jerry Springer) might not have a problem with that behavior so why should there rights be stopped?

Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness and if your happiness involves having your daughter become a slut then so be it.

Now if there were pics between an adult and a teenager then other laws in existence, such as child pornagraphy laws, should kick in but how can anyone call this child pornagraphy when it is between two children? The laws against child pornagraphy themselves state that the sex act has to be between an adult of certain age and a minor below a certain age so how can child porn laws apply when it is between two minors below a certain age?

This is why being a republican is so damn hard sometimes.

If you want to allow your daughter to smoke dope or drink in your own home, that's your perrogative. But once you serve my kid, its against the law. So is the same with sexting. If your daughter takes titty pics in her own bedroom - fine. .But once she sends them to my kid, its illegal.

Who says it's just the "boyfriend" getting these pics? Law enforcement will only learn of it when its sent arpund town. And it always does. Trust me on that one.

I think if that happens then you should call me up and complain. You can actually ban you son from talking to my daughter but you should not get officer bob to arrest my daughter or issue a citation.

How about if a 16 year old boy sends dick pics to ur 12 year old daughter? Phone call?

It seems this law will differentiuate between "sexting" and real child porn. It could be a good thing ihopehefails.

Every law infringes on the free will of the individuals to pursue their own course. If i choose to murder someone the law is rightfully there to stop me from pursuing my own course.

let me give you a hypothetical. a 13 year old girl decides to send a 14 year old boy a nude pic of herself via text. the boy decides to send it to sall his friends because, well because he's a 14 year old boy. the boy's dad is a bit of a sexist so he thinks it's no big thing until the cops show up at the door and arrest his son for trafficking in child porn which is a felony. the boy is convicted and now the the 13 year old has to register as a level 3 sex offender for the rest of his life. seems to me this law is an attempt to make the punishment appropriate to the crime.

here's one case, there's literally hundreds

Exactly. I'd also point out that it isn't a "private sphere" because they're minors anyway and they don't have the same rights as adults.

But isn't she anti right of privacy, anyway? You know that emanating from the penumbra of the billl of rights and all that. :eusa_whistle:
