NASA is closely monitoring the arrival of a previously unseen asteroid that is set to brush past Earth next week at 12,300 miles per hour. The space rock had been invisible to astronomers until January 5, but scientists quickly calculated the asteroid, named 2018 AJ, will fly past Earth Tuesday, January 23. But NASA admits it is not yet certain of its orbital path. New asteroids are given a condition code of between 0 to 9 based on how certain astronomers are about its course. Zero means they are fairly certain, but 9 is classed as “highly uncertain”.

Well if you ask me this is a current event , where everyone can see it just before it slams into earth LOL...
They had no clue about the one that hit in Russia either and that slammed earth.

So we know more than likely yeah, yeah it won't hit but yah never know.

22-68 meters is not a huge asteroid.

Based on the data from this site, it would be a Tunguska event.

"It is currently believed it will pass at a comfortable 4.6 times the distance from Earth to the Moon. The Moon is 238,000 miles from Earth and this pass, currently estimated at around 1.1 million miles"

Be sure to duck.

That's a slow one. More common is twice the speed. And it is small and almost 5 times the distance of the Moon at close approach. It would be a minor event even if it hit, probably less than the Chelyabinsk one. Such rocks pass us fairly often.

The real fun of the calculator I linked is adding in bigger ones, like the Dino-killer.

This is what it would look like in NYC if it hit the same place.
