HuffPo ‘Senior’ Reporter Embarrassed on Air with Basic Facts Like Bill Clinton Bombing Iraq and More

The Huffington Post’s “senior political economy reporter” Zach Carter appeared on Hugh Hewitt’s show recently, and comically demonstrated his lack of knowledge on several topics. Newsbusters grabbed the audio and did a write-up on the fiasco.

After Hewitt asked Carter a little about his background, Hewitt asked Carter who Alger Hiss is. Carter did not know who Hiss was. For those of you playing at home, he was a communist collaborator and Soviet spy influential during New Deal years.

In the 1990s, a series of cables were released that showed that Hiss was in fact a Soviet spy. But as a key part of initiation to the East Coast cocktail circuit, it is de rigueur to defend traitors to the communist Soviet Union, just in case Carter didn’t know. We’re here to help.

While Carter was going on and on about how Dick Cheney got Iraq wrong, Hewitt asked him about why Bill Clinton bombed Iraq in 1998. Amazingly, “senior political economy reporter” Zach Carter did not know that Bill Clinton bombed Iraq. Yes, he did.

That’s right, former President Bill Clinton bombed Iraq back in 1998 after the Iraqi government refused to comply with U.N. resolutions and interfered with U.N weapons inspectors searching for alleged Iraqi chemical and biological weapons. Also, in October 1998, President Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act, which explicitly called for regime change in Iraq.

Maybe before the Huffington Post hands out titles like “senior political economy reporter,” they should make sure their reporters actually know what they’re talking about before they go on the air or even write anything.
