Blaming utilities for state forestry errors is common. What do you know or think about the problem?

Will CA go whole hog third world when the state takes over everything?

Well , major utilities are the enemy of the Peoples Republica of Californication. So if all of them(power stations) are destroyed and there is no power to anyone living their, then the ultimate liberal wet dream has occurred.

Revolution (TV Series 2012–2014) - IMDb
In this epic adventure, a family struggles to reunite in an American landscape void of electricity: a world of empty cities, local militias and heroic freedom fighters, where every single piece of technology -- computers, planes, cars, phones, even lights -- has mysteriously blacked out forever.

They charge customers the costs to keep trees away from wires. They’re incompetence is their liability.
All utilities do that one way or the other. The tree surgeons don't come cheap because it is a highly dangerous job and chip disposal ain't cheap either. The smart bet is that reliability will go down and bills will go up. Southern company, possibly the best run electric utility in the world has much less regulatory drag than just about any utility that can be named. Those two facts are co-dependent. I would suspect from the business news that fire retardant showing up in goat milk is one of the bigger problems for the utilities in much the same way that anti-kudzu weed killers is a major problem in the south and a major reason for higher wood chip disposal costs. That is the kind of cost that has a very high and wide compounding rate.

The northern state fires would be happening regardless of tree trimming as the trees grow faster than they can be cut back. And the winds that cause the wires to arc on the branches occur every year with some years having more velocity than others. The real solution is to limit towns in god forsaken areas.
