The head of the House Judiciary Committee issued a subpoena Monday seeking the public testimony of former White House counsel Don McGahn to probe possible obstruction of justice by President Trump, following the release of special counsel’s Robert Mueller’s report.
Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) described McGahn as a critical witness who may be able to shed light on cases in which he says Trump may have sought to obstruct Mueller’s investigation, a matter that is being examined as part of his panel’s sprawling probe into possible obstruction of justice, public corruption and abuses of power by the president and his inner circle.... The White House Counsel is a staff appointee of the President of the United States whose role is to advise the President on all legal issues concerning the President and his Administration.

So, that raises the question in my mind of lawyer/client privilege. In addition, might some of the things he’s asked about fall under Executive Privilege?

McGahn is therefore a central player not just because of his proximity to the president and his central role in the White House, but because ordering someone to lie is a big, bright red line when it comes to obstruction of justice. Now that the Mueller report is out and the onus for any obstruction charge is clearly on Congress, it makes sense that McGahn would be among the Democratic chairman of the House Judiciary Committee’s first calls.

House Judiciary chairman subpoenas former White House lawyer McGahn

The head of the House Judiciary Committee issued a subpoena Monday seeking the public testimony of former White House counsel Don McGahn to probe possible obstruction of justice by President Trump, following the release of special counsel’s Robert Mueller’s report.
Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) described McGahn as a critical witness who may be able to shed light on cases in which he says Trump may have sought to obstruct Mueller’s investigation, a matter that is being examined as part of his panel’s sprawling probe into possible obstruction of justice, public corruption and abuses of power by the president and his inner circle.... McGahn’s testimony was featured extensively in Mueller’s report, which stated that Trump told him to remove Mueller in June 2017, according to the former White House counsel. McGahn refused to do so, fearing it would have been viewed “as triggering another Saturday Night Massacre,” the 448-page report says.... "Mr. McGahn is a critical witness to many of the alleged instances of obstruction of justice and other misconduct described in the Mueller report," Nadler said in a statement Monday evening.... "His testimony will help shed further light on the President's attacks on the rule of law, and his attempts to cover up those actions by lying to the American people and requesting others do the same," Nadler continued.
Grand jury material is subject to federal secrecy rules, barring a court order for some exceptions. Barr has said he would not petition a judge to release the material.... While they said they are willing to work with the attorney general to reach an agreement, the two sides appear to be at an impasse that could be heading into a prolonged court battle over such sensitive material.

This is ludicrous. If I'm not mistaken, McGahn was interviewed 30 HOURS by Mueller investigators. This is such a waste of time with total chaos on the borders but because it is now between equal branches of government It is privileged. But now Privilege kicks in. Same with Mueller. Watch. Nadler is trying to hide the culpability of the seditious Obama administration by using subpoenas and save the traitors, Obama, Lynch, Clinton, Strzok, Page, Comey, Brennan, Clapper, etc. along with many in the lying media need terms in prison. This Steele dossier and Mueller probe was one of the most disgraceful acts in our country's history.
What is pathetic are the imbeciles that continue to scream Russia, Russia, Russia, etc.. after 2 years of an investigation that shows an innocent man was harassed by faithless seditious traitors.

I can tell you are trying really hard to hold on to the idea that Mueller's report really did exonerate Trump of any wrong doing. Sorry, but Barr really lie about what was in the report, and Trump really did do all that unethical stuff. No amount of right wing lying or spin can change that. Now, you have to decide if you will hang on to those lies, or face the reality of Trump's actions

Then why did Mueller refuse to charge Trump? Why did Mueller write..."While there is no crime on Obstruction, we cannot exonerate him, either?"

He wrote there was no crime.

He said he could not indict the president because the DOJ policy was to not indict a sitting president. Since it would not be fair to indict without a trial for the president to have an opportunity to defend himself, he instead recorded several incidents for when he was no longer president and could be indicted.

Trump’s comments came as the White House made it clear that it plans to broadly defy requests for information from Capitol Hill, moving the two branches of government closer to a constitutional collision.

On Tuesday, two White House officials said the administration plans to fight a subpoena issued by the House Judiciary Committee for former White House counsel Donald McGahn by asserting executive privilege over his testimony.

Separately, the administration directed a former White House official not to comply with a subpoena from the House Oversight Committee, prompting the panel to move to hold him in contempt. And the Treasury Department defied a second demand from House Democrats to turn over six years of President Trump’s tax returns.
