House Democrats Side With Iran

It's called regaining your Constitutional authority. Nearly 30 Republicans approved of the amendment as well.

You'll get no argument from me concerning ignorant Republicans.

They never lost it.
Then what purpose does it serve to write an amendment telling the President he cannot start a war with Iran if the President already understands that fact?

Good question, seeing as he can legally pound them for 90 days before justifying it to Congress.

That said, how many wars have we had since the last time Congress declared war? Hmm?

He can only legally attack Iran in a national emergency precipitated by them attacking us.

And the second question speaks directly to the reason I said that Congress is trying to regain its Constitutional authority.

They already have. Trump's restraint was remarkable.

As someone said, Congress never lost it.

That was not a national emergency, clearly.

Oh, and the President has 48 hours to justify his actions, not 90 days.

If you need any further assistance understanding our laws, don't hesitate to ask.

The War Powers Resolution requires the President to notify Congress within 48 hours of committing armed forces to military action and forbids armed forces from remaining for more than 60 days, with a further 30-day withdrawal period, without a Congressional authorization for use of military force (AUMF) or a declaration of war by the United States. The resolution was passed by two-thirds of each of the House and Senate, overriding the veto of the bill from President Nixon.

It has been alleged that the War Powers Resolution has been violated in the past – for example, by President Bill Clinton in 1999, during the bombing campaign in Kosovo. Congress has disapproved all such incidents, but none has resulted in any successful legal actions being taken against the president for alleged violations.

The Congress has every right to demand a vote on any action in Iran. They are equal partners as the Constitution dictates. Congress has the power to defund any action and alone has the power to declare war.

Around 30 Republicans voted for the amendment. That included liberals such as Mark Meadows and Jim Jordan. If Republicans in the Senate don't like it then we can always forget about the Defense Authorization bill.

George W Bush allowed a vote on a bill to authorize military action. That was when Republicans had a respect for the Constitution.

This is what we call justification. Thanks for playing.

the President shall submit within 48 hours to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and to the President pro tempore of the Senate a report, in writing, setting forth—
(A) the circumstances necessitating the introduction of United States Armed Forces;
(B) the constitutional and legislative authority under which such introduction took place; and
(C) the estimated scope and duration of the hostilities or involvement.

Chances are Iran would start it. Alrdy committed at least one actionable attack.
No they haven't. It takes a national emergency for the President to legally start a war absent congressional authorization.

Can’t score political points domestically by calling out homophobia and misogyny in Iran, so Dimms don’t GAF.

If the President wants to Trump stamp the Iranian regime he will do it. And there isn’t a damned thing the Queer Brigade in the House can do about it.
