I find this interesting:

Historical rankings of Presidents of the United States - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Each person's view point would obviously effect their takeaway from this. These are polls of "experts" or as close as they could come, you know historians, poly sci profs, etc.

I think I'm fairly realisitic and pragmatic, so though I lean a little left politically, I think these rankings are pretty spot on. I would find it funny if the loudest people in the room are the responses to Obama's ranking, whom it's obviously to early to judge, so somewhere in the middle makes sense for now. The rest of the polling is good stuff.

This is why I don't use wiki as a source of political info. Under no means can carter rank above Reagan. And Obama isn't done.

Plus as time went by they started being ranked by the media. That alone should tell you something.

He ranked ahead of Reagan in 1 out of 12 and behind him in 11 out of 12.

Reagan's average ranking is 16th, Carter's is 27th.

I would personally rank them about even because I think Reagan's legacy is both good and bad, but the bad could prove to be horrible for the country.

Your opinion is one opinion, as is mine. The broad opinion of these 1000s of people, many of whom are experts, over time, says a lot more than your opinion or mine.

And you can find all kinds of presidential ratings lists... big fucking whoop

IMHO, any one that Ranks Carter above 40 is ridiculous.... any one that has FDR in the top 8 is ridiculous... any one that puts Jefferson out of the top 5 is ridiculous.. and any one that puts Obama anywhere in there is even more ridiculous

I appreciate your service, but your opinion is 1 person's opinion.

You say anyone that puts FDR in the top 8 is stupid.

16 polls of experts have him ranked 1,2, or 3, none have him ranked lower than 3rd.
Maybe they know something you don't.

If you mean Obama shouldn't be on a list yet, because we don't have enough information, fine. If instead you mean he doesn't deserve to be on a list with the rest of them, then I shouldn't have responded to your post at all, because we obviously know where you stand.

With regards to Carter being in the top 40, there have only been 44 Presidents, one currently serving. Carter is not ranked worse than 34th on any of the polls.

Of Warren Harding, James Buchanan and Andrew Johnson who does Carter rank behind?

It is too early for Obama, Bush or even Clinton to be rated. I doubt enough time has passed for the elder Bush either.

Universal Though of as the Top Presidents:
Lincoln, Washington, TJ, FDR, IKE and Truman

Universal Though of as the Worst Presidents:
Buchanan, Harding, Carter & GWB

Unfair to rank Obama at the moment, since he is only two years in. It could be unfair to rank W, since he is only two years out.

I also think slick Willie gets off from being a horrible President, because he had the benefits of being the dot.com surplus. But he kicked off the Mortgage Meltdown, then when it was started it could only be stopped by the bubble bursting. He kicked off the student loan crisis and the largest increase in college tuition in US history. He also is the head in the sand President on Islamofacist threats to America. In the end, he didn't just get sucked off, he sucked all the way around.

All.

I would have Carter on the bottom.

He got a lot of easy things done. When it got hard.. Well, the bodies of marines being dragged, the lines at the gas stations, record inflation, etc etc.. He didn't have it in him to lead. I think he would have been a great diplmat thogh.

Clinton can be rated, he has been a decade out of office! HE SUCKED!

I figured the book was closed because Obama finished as number 1 across the board so it was decided to just shut it down because no other President could ever top that.

By the way Isn't President Obama due for another Nobel prize yet?......

I know the conservative thing is too look back on FDR and say he sucks, he prolonged the Great Depression and he started entitlement loving America! However, look back objectively its hard to say he isn't a top President!

FDR is popularized IGNORANTLY because of WWII and the supposed 'getting us out of the depression" bullshit.... he did much more harm to the country thanks to his socialist programs, than he ever did good.... Truman was a vastly superior president in the era and does not get the knob slobbering that the vastly overrated FDR does

Obama is not a President that has finished his time... hence should be on no list of rankings... but if he does continue his reign of ineptitude and ignorance, he will be down in sub 40 territory like Carter is

Carter is vastly horrible on any account.... in everything from economy, foreign policy, etc he was horrid... Harding is probably the worst of all Presidents.... Zach Taylor and U Grant not far behind... with Carter right in the mix.... Grant, with his 'good will' was much like Carter, but like Carter his ignorance doomed him and the country... they are very similar... Obama is on track to possibly be worse than Carter

The right winger ranks his Presidents. It's no surprise that based on the values you espouse your thoughts on the Presidents follows. Mind you, your opinion could only be that of a far right wing ideologue.

Most people disagree with you almost entirely. Your take on FDR is close to absurd. And you might want to add 4 years to your clock on Obama as President.

Only absurd to a propaganda fed hyper-partisan left winger, such as yourself

FDR did so much harm with the 'New Deal' Social Security and other things, it is not funny... much of the precedent he set has caused a huge amount of the governmental problems we have today... but he gets a lot of ignorant popularity thanks to WWII, not unlike JFK getting a lot of popularity due to the assassination and the 'feelings' behind that
