God bless him.
He reminds me of my old Italian father-in-law. The older he got, the more he reverted to the subsistence farmer that he always wanted to be (and that he was, before he left Italy). Eventually, though, prostate cancer got him. It really bothered him when in the last year he wasn't healthy enough to tend his vegetable garden.
The lifestyle seems like it would be pleasant - in short doses. A week or so now and again.
