You can read Turkish Infrastructure Minister Yildirim saying, that Turkey will invest 1 Trillion € /1,46 Trillion $) till 2025 in transport projects.

Part of this investment is construction of 3,000km of High-Speed Railway Network.

For example current Ankara Main Rail Station:

The new High-Speed Main Station will be constructed right behind it:

The only Hisgh-Speed line currently finished is Ankara-Eskisehir line. Turkey has bought 12 High-Speed trains from Spain.:

Turkish State Railway's has gone into partnership with Hyundai. Together with Turkish Asas Otomotiv, the 3 have founded a Joint-venture called Hyundai-Eurotem.
They have built a factory in Adapazari in Turkey. Turkey will build Korean HSR-350x (300 km/h) and KTXII (350 km/h) under licence from Hyundai.

This is for example the current Istanbul Main Rail Station (Haydarpasa).
haydar026mtac8.jpg

The above picture is misleading, as Haydarpasa area is also Turkey's 3rd biggest (Link) sea-port.
The whole haydarpasa area will be reconstructed, as the Raily Station will be obsolete due to Marmaray project (will post about it in another post) and the sea-port will move outside into the Hinterland of Istanbul.

The red square is the Rail Station from above picture. To show you the dimensions.
The whole coloured and detailed area around the red square is part of the restructuring of Haydarpasa:
haydarpasaul6.jpg

All proposed skyscraper-projects for the area have been rejected.
The project which has won resembles Ottoman architecture of the 17h century.
An area in inner-Istanbul of 2,2 Million m² will be reconstructed:
Link:Vizzion Architects - Haydarpasa

Yildiz Technical University is currently doing research of the earth ground. The restructuring costs 5,1 Billion $.

Istanbul will get in the coming years 32 new car tunnels. The project is called from translation " 7 tunnels for 7 hills".

Total length of the car tunnels is 35 km and will cost 22,6 Billion TL ( 15,2 Billion $ ).

First tunnel has been completed in March 2009.
It reduces route between Kağıthane-Dolmabahçe from over 1 hour to 7 minutes.
Number 2 of State Protocol being the first to drive through:

But these car tunnels are only little projects, cumulating making it big.
Big project is Marmaray project.
Marmaray-project are tunnels on land (ungerground) and through Bosphorus (underwater). So the Asian and European side of Istanbul will be connected by tunnels.

Here is a collection of Webcams from the different construction zones:

After completion, the usage of rail transportation in Istanbul is predicted to rise from 3.6% to 27.7%, which would see Istanbul's percentage rate of rail transportation usage as the third highest in the world, behind Tokyo (60%) and New York City (31%).[4]

- 13,6 km underground rail network
- 1,4 km earthquake-secure underwater tunnel
- 63 km upgrade of existing rail line into high-capacity line
- 37 over-earth rail station modernization
- 3 new under-earth rail stations

instead of giving billions to his political allies obama could have created incentive for contruction of an interstate bullet train

San Francisco CA to Cedar Rapids IA is about 3000km, we could get one train here in the US and it won't go coast to coast.

The mentioned Marmaray project from above is for railway. It has 2 tubes under the Bosphorus.

For cars and busses there will be built another 2 underwater tunnels. But on slightly different location in Istabul.
The project is called "Bosporus Highway Tube Tunnel".

The Bosporus Highway Tube Tunnel Project involves building a two-story, two-lane, 5.4-kilometer automobile tunnel, of which 3.3 kilometers would be under the Bosporus.

The underwater Highway from Asian to European side of Istanbul will be built by a Korean-Turkish consortium. The contract was awarded during the visit of Korean Prime Minister Han Seung-Soo to Turkey in December 2008.

As i could post even more ongoings from big Turkish cities, this could be misleading.
So if anyone is interested, i can describe more high-profile projects.

Now I want to describe from the Turkish province, especially from my home city Gaziantep.

The oldest University is the "University of Gaziantep".
This university was built 1987.

In 2008 the construction for the 2nd University started, the Gazikent University. Students will begin university life in winter Semester 2009/10.

Paralell, on 28th September 2009 will be inaugrated the 3rd University. It is called "Zirve University".
It will be only taught in English language.
The University of North Texas is cooperating with Zirve University

Here a picture from Zirve University:

The oldest University in Gaziantep now constructs a space-observatorium, it is the first space-observatorium in South-East Turkey.

And here location where it will be built:

The Gaziantep municipality is constructing a planetarium and a botanical garden surrounding it with over 4,000 plant species.

In 2004 was finished the Gaziantep-Adana Highway. On the Highway route was constructed a total of 14 bridges.
The Ataturk Viaduct, so claims the Red-Bull base jumper from following video, is the 2nd highest Viaduct in Europe.

Off course, these are not so high-profile projects, but it shows, that it is moving forward in the right direction also in the Turkish province.
