Well, USMB peeps, I'm outta here for the day. Heading to the first of two tea parties on my agenda today.

Will report back tomorrow.

Yell loudly, keep an eye peeled for moron infiltrators (were at the last DC one), don't get a parking ticket, pick up any garbage you generate, but most of all, enjoy your contribution to the cause!

I can't go today. Bummer.

I wonder...if you put all this energy into your start up tech company instead of whining about paying lower taxes last year...which would be more beneficial? :eusa_eh:

When one is intellectually challenged in making any point, the best they can accomplish is dishonesty. You are dishonest in your implication that either of those things happened.

Boy, the Tea Partiers are so under your skin that you make such a fool of yourself with vacuous posts.

Wow, only a Democrat could spew garbage like those uttered above. Nice job.

Good heavens, that's just not normal.

Potlucks are an integral part of my life, always have been!

I went to two tea parties yesterday, a small one down at Jack London Square in Oakland, and then the one at Union Square in San Francisco.

Observations:

The Oakland one coincided with the boat show, so we had plenty of folks walking by. Most of our tea party were retired little old ladies. They were very sweet - and served iced Lipton Tea to whomever wanted a glass.

In general, the people walking by were supportive or neutral - we only had one jerk (oddly enough, he was dressed in bright kelly green and yellow like a hobbit) who started yelling at us in colorful language. I just smiled and said we had to same first amendment rights as he did. When he couldn't get a hostile reaction from us, he lost interest and left.

The bigger issue were the two obese security guards for the JLS garage. They waddled over and told us we were trespassing on private property. As we were standing on city maintained sidewalks, we questioned their assertion. One took her cellphone and said she would call for help. She waddled off, never to be seen again (it was lunch time - obviously her priority).

Another woman showed up saying she was head of PR for the boat show and she hadn't authorized our "presence". We asked for her business card - which shut her up pretty quickly.

A few of the exhibitors stopped by - they loved that we were protesting. We started chanting "Cut Taxes - Buy A Boat". That made them very happy.

A short Tea Party of one hour - after which I went to see the "America's Cup" which was on display in a tent near Kincaid's Restaurant.

Sounds like a nice day.

Was the tea freshly brewed or instant mix?

Later in the afternoon, Mr. Boe and I headed across the bridge to San Francisco for the Tea Party and Union Square. This was a more organized one, sponsored by KSFO radio.

We had gone to the SF one last year, which was down by City Hall and Pelosi's office. Compared to last year's, this one was much more professional: proper sound system, tents and tables with information, more event production (i.e. scheduled speakers).

The crowd was fairly mixed - although weighted towards middle aged folks. There were also quite a few immigrants from eastern bloc countries - they were the most vocal about the horrors of socialism. There were a lot of handmade signs (including Mr. Boe and mine). I saw nothing that was racist or offensive.

A few infiltrators did attempt to disrupt the event - although they were pretty feeble and soon outed. Mr. Boe, being a big guy, stood around the perimeter and helped with security. He handled one group of anarchists from STANFORD, all dressed in identical black outfits to express their individuality. He stood next to them smiling. One asked him if he was going to start messing with them. He said no, but if they started something, he would finish it. One kept covering his face like the true coward he was. They muttered amongst themselves for awhile and then left. I'd say that's pretty emblematic of who the infiltrators are.

Mr. Boe also had an interesting chat with some Private Equity folks who wandered into the Tea Party after attending a conference. They loved it - they are incredibly worried about the Obama tax changes. Essentially, partnership income will be double taxed. First the partnership, and then the distribution to partners, resulting in a 100% tax when state taxes are overlaid. Over $1T of Private Equity capital is sitting idle right now - another reason why Jobs Are Not Being Created.

While Mr. Boe patrolled the perimeter, I was near front and center for the event. The highlight for me was a group of young girls (sisters) who are home schooled. They sang beautifully while one played the guitar. One of their pieces was a medly of military theme. It was beautiful. The rest of the program included local media celebs, a comedian, a couple of GOP politicians, and a variety of citizens speaking out about why they are involved with the Tea Party.

My review of the program is mixed. I found the Emcee to be rather uninspiring - she didn't manage the pace very well. Some of the speakers rambled - and were allowed to go off message. The crowd was a better moderator in this regard than the Emcee. I.E., one speaker made a birther comment, to which the crowd reacted unfavorably. The best reactions were to daughter of Soviet immigrants, a Soviet immigrant woman, and a guy from Vallejo who made a very impassioned plea for people to get involved at the local level.

All in all, a worthy event. And for the record, I'm an excellent speller.
