Sen Bob Dole - a war hero who lost an arm in WW2 - lost to clinton in 96.

Sen John McCain lost to Obama in 2008.

The last war veteran to win a Presidential election was G. H. W. Bush in 1988. The next four election cycles (Bush 1992, Dole, Gore, Kerry), the veteran lost.

Yes, Bush was a WWII hero. He flew a slow torpedo bomber at wave top level directly into the teeth of the Japanese Navy's defenses. I would call him a hero for that.

But if you look at everything else he has done since, I think that puts him in the category of the most evil men on the planet along with David Rockefeller and Henry Kissinger.
