Germany's Renewables Did It Again, A New Record!
Germany’s renewables did it again, a new record! According to the Fraunhofer institute, renewable energy produced about 81 TWh, or 31% of the nation’s electricity during the first half of 2014. Solar production is up 28%, wind 19% and biomass 7% over last year. Meanwhile, with the exception of nuclear energy, all conventional sources are producing less. The output from gas powered plants was half of what it had been in 2010 and brown coal powered plants are producing at a similar level to 2010-2012.

“The reoccurring records for renewables in Germany demonstrate the incredible success of Germany’s EEG legislation,” says Max Hildebrandt, renewable energy industry expert at Germany Trade & Invest, the country’s foreign trade and inward investment promotion agency.

The Solar (37.5 GW) and Wind (34.6 GW) sectors also led the nation, in terms of new capacity installed.

These two energy sources work well together. As you can see in the chart below, the strongest winds come during the winter. They are dying down in March and April, when solar energy starts growing strong. By June the sun is providing twice as much energy.

Germany should commission more nuclear as a back up.

Germany is cutting back on wind power construction because it is economically inefficient.

Is the radical global warming left completely out of touch with reality or are they pandering to their ignorant base? The international news has been full of stories about Germany planning to abandon it's 33 billion subsidy per year for "alternate energy". The country can afford it when recent winters have been colder and the price of electricity has doubled. Many manufacturing companies threaten to leave the country until the cost of energy is realistic.

Germany is over it's head in investing 33 Billion in Euro dollars every year to keep a facade of "renewable" energy sources solvent.

While all of this is interesting are these figures based on monthly ratings? If so then we have mild temps, longer hours of sunlight, and less demand for electricity. The reverse will be true in six months and the snow covered solar panels will be useless,as tits on a boar hog, necessitating a redundant backup that we already had before the panels were installed. So the benefit of all this is what?
