George W. Bush is the most expensive ex-president - Salon.com

The costliest former president? George W. Bush, who clocked in at just over $1.3 million. That includes almost $400,000 for 8,000 square feet of office space and $85,000 in telephone costs.

Funny how you hear righties moan every time the Secret Service protects the President and Vice President abroad but not a whimper about the 8,000 sq. ft. of office space we the taxpayer provide to EX president GW Bush.

85k in telephone costs? Does Shrub realize you can get good live porn on the internet, no need to dial into phone sex services any more?

Not to mention, I think I read somewhere that the Iraq debacle could take us taxpayers 100 years to pay off. What did we get for all of that money? NOTHING. Disgraceful.

Well, private defense contractors did make out like bandits for doing little to no or shoddy work. I believe it was planned this way by the Bush administration, though. Doubly disgraceful.

salon?? What next??.. a piece by huffo puffo to back it up??

Do I think there should be anything beyond basic protection for a few number of years for ex-presidents?? No... We don't need they at risk for capture by kidnappers, terrorists, etc.. but beyond that, I think they can pay for things themselves

How about a report from the Congressional Research Service?

... in FY2012, George W. Bush, the former President who left office most recently (January 2009), had the highest annual pension and benefit costs among the four living former Presidents ($1,319,000).

Uh huh.. but does make sense since he is the last retired ex president...

But as stated, meat-sack... I only think that ex presidents should get protection for a set number of years and nothing else.. it is not like they cannot earn...

Nice of you to forget that part of my post...

But lets see this outrage when it is Obamalama with the highest when he leaves office.. somehow I don't think it will come

President Bill Clinton came in second at just under $1 million, followed by George H.W. Bush at nearly $850,000. Costs for Jimmy Carter, the only other living former president, came in at about $500,000.

Just so you are aware that my criticisms cross all party lines; I just posted this in my thread in response to you.

I always have noticed taxpayer dollars spent. I was reading about ex President's expense accounts and I flipped.

No limit on the necessary security details assigned to each of them of course, but considering they are all wealthy in their own right what the hell are taxpayers doing paying for ex Presidents postage expenses and the like?

I'm very bipartisan on this. I'll bitch about both sides.

:eusa_angel:

Obama is still in office and when he is out it will cost more... Then the President after Obama will cost more and the next and the next and the next....

It was overshadowed by your absurd implication that a CRS report must be false if Salon writes about it.

but hes white so its OK

Sadly the only reason you care is because Bush is white.

You didn't like Iraq until Obama ran it 3 years longer and Bush's policy ended it despite Obama trying to stay. You hated Afghanistan until Obama expanded it and whelp, it's still going... You talked all the time about how bad Guantanamo Bay was until Obama took control of it. You bitched about deficits and debt until Obama set records for both every single year in office.

You didn't like wars to free people in other countries until Obama did it in multiple countries.

"You guys..." and wtf are you talking about? Will it upset you that Obama could cost and probably will spend more when he is out of office that previous Presidents? Or does it just bother you because Bush is white as you mentioned above?

Im sick of the right LYING about everything because they hate having a black president
