Defense establishment tells politicians that preventing social and economic meltdown in Gaza is in Israel’s best interest.

Israel's defense establishment will recommend to politicians that they show generosity in indirect negotiations with Hamas when discussing the conditions for a permanent cease-fire, in order to forestall renewed hostilities at the end of September. A senior military source has told Haaretz that it is in Israel’s interest to avoid intense social and economic pressure on Gaza.

From all reports the IDF were actually against this last war on Gaza.
They were of course subject to the political whim and convenience of those in power.
Effective militaries are nothing, if not pragmatic.

The word "against" doesn't really fits, the operation was inevitable since the escalation forced on Israel, regardless of politics nobody in Israel wants a war, which is why Israel insisted on negotiations (politically) since the beginning ..

The rumpus caused by the political reaction to the 3 hitch hikers' murders, and the security forces murders of those they 'searched' together with the general repression of Palestinians was a political choice. Which led directly to Hamas retaliation and then, in the absence of de-escalation by Israel, to the war.

Israel engineered the war. The IDF commanders warned of this, and warned against it.

And many people in Israel not just want a war, they want a Shoah.

Its factual, the IDF is one of the most liberal armies towards gays in the world, according to younger relatives in Israel a large% were not in favour of this incursion

The IDF and Israel is one, separations like the one you made are wrong, the IDF are Israelis vote for the government, and the government actions back the IDF, and of course the other way around.
I don't think it sinks to you that NOBODY interested in war, but once it there is no other option then so be it.
