French Newspaper Plans To Publish Cartoons Of The Prophet Mohammad

Will that same newspaper be publishing any nude Kate Middleton pictures?

Not a relevant question. Publishing pictures of Mo breaks no laws. Publishing photos of a living person without their permission breaks privacy laws.

PARIS, Sept 18 (Reuters) - The French government has called for restraint after learning that a satirical weekly plans to publish cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad on Wednesday just as an anti-Islam video has ignited Muslim protests around the globe.

The Paris offices of the paper, Charlie Hebdo, were firebombed last November after it published a mocking caricature of Mohammad, and in 2005 Danish cartoons of the Prophet sparked a wave of protests across the Muslim world in which at least 50 people were killed.

Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, asked about the publication, said any provocation now could only be condemned.

Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault issued a statement saying: "In the current climate, the prime minister wishes to stress his disapproval of all excess and calls on everyone to behave responsibly."

France is home to Europe's largest Muslim population. Calls are already circulating on social networks and the Internet for protests on Saturday over an anti-Islam film that was made with private funds in the United States and posted on the Internet.

Charlie Hebdo's
latest move was greeted with immediate calls from political and religious leaders for the media to act responsibly and avoid inflaming the current situation. The magazine's editor, originally a cartoonist who uses the name Charb, denied he was being deliberately provocative at a delicate time.
''The freedom of the press, is that a provocation?'' he said.
''I'm not asking strict Muslims to read Charlie Hebdo, just like I wouldn't go to a mosque to listen to speeches that go against everything I believe.''

When will it stop? That's the question you must ask yourself.

In a society where you have freedom of speech, where do you draw the line and say, "You're not allowed to do that though?"

Once you say, "you can't", you no longer have that Liberty, that Freedom. You force a newspaper, a magazine, a person from saying anything offensive about anything, you must also say its not allowed for all. If any country who has freedom of speech says a news paper can't publish cartoons of Mohammad, then that country must stop all offensive publications even if it only offends one person.

So, say goodbye to all those who make fun of Christianity. Say goodbye to your porn. Say goodbye to documentaries. Say goodbye to political commercials. Say goodbye to all media no matter what it is.

Are you retarded?

If you can't comprehend my response then you should be posing that question to yourself.

Then why are topless pictures of Kate Middleton being published - without permission?

You sure don't keep up with world events, do you? Why do you think the publishing of those photos is now a court case and why do you think that the French court has imposed an order on the magazine preventing them from publishing further shots? I guess you need to brush up on privacy laws in Europe. Oh, and if you're going to discuss international matters, at least make sure you are armed with all the facts. That way, you'll avoid embarrassment.

If it's logical to ban criticizing a religion because it's dangerous, then that same logic says it's OK to ban any religion that causes people to run amok.

To me those two things are entirely contradictory.

If we have freedom of religion - then that freedom is absolute to the limits of other existing laws.

Criticising religions is also a freedom - but again only to the limits of other existing laws.

Wrong.

Religion is a volatile subject in many areas of the world. I'm all for free speech, but not when a pre-advertised and premeditated act (especially by a newspaper) would likely cause violence and needlessly place innocent people at great risk of injury or death - including police and fire personnel.

You are for free speech unless you aren't, good to see you are consistently stupid.

It is pretty easy.

Anything that restricts free speech is wrong, period.
