Yet another 'stand your ground' slaying. This time though the shooter fired blindly into the vehicle containing 3 or 4 teens fearing they had a weapon. From his jail cell he's written letters to family admitting his "prejudiced" views and hatred of "thug music."

With all due respect, this article is simply about a bad person doing a bad thing. And now he's in jail and will likely remain there for a very long time.

There are thousands of stories like this every year. Just a sad fact of life.

I remember this story.. It was all over the news.

Michael Dunn is facing murder and attempted murder charges in the shooting of 17-year-old Jordan Davis. Davis was waiting inside the car with two other teenagers while the car's 19-year-old driver made a purchase inside the gas station. Dunn was outside the store waiting for his girlfriend.

"They were listening to music. It was loud, they admitted that," said Lt. Rob Schoonover, a homicide detective with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. "But that's not a reason to open fire ... and take action."

The 45-year-old Dunn was arrested at his Brevard County home, about 160 miles away, along Florida's Space Coast. He told detectives he had been in the process of turning himself in to a neighbor, who is in law enforcement. He is in the Brevard County Jail awaiting extradition to Jacksonville after pleading not guilty to the charges.

Dunn is white and Davis is black, but sheriff's office spokesman Officer Shannon Hartley said Tuesday that race wasn't a factor in the investigation.

Anytime a person is killed in such a senseless manner, it is bad. But this guy obviously is mentally imbalanced. There are many who share his mental instability walking around carrying a concealed weapon at this very moment. I try not to think about it, but it is true...and very frightening.
