My house
Someone is using the words I choose in my posts to link to advertisements.

I feel firstly, it is beyond the pale, and I'm so mad I am seeing red.

Secondly, it is underhanded and uncalled-for conduct.

Thirdly, I have no control over the product that is being solicited or advertised. Is it a product that could someday be cancerous? Could it at some point in administration changes be an ad for pornography?

And I want that practice stopped. I have no desire to be held accountable for somebody using my good name and my posts on this or any other board as a cunning way to sell a product I do not care to see any of my friends financially ruined for buying it if they think it's a favor to me.

Can anybody who advertises here heist the words of other posters to do this? I really don't care for it, and I would thank whoever is doing it to stop doing it.

My words belong to me.

Who is doing this?

Note the word thank above. They're using the word thank to link something, and I really think that's disgusting and horrible.

Sorry, I'm not sure what you're saying. Is someone copying words you post and using them in an ad on this site? OR, is someone editing your posts and using one of your words as a link?

I saw on another thread where someone said some of the words in their posts were showing up as links.

If I remember correctly, it happens on some browsers but not on others. Doesn't happen to me. I use Firefox.

Ive seen VB use words as links for definitions (annoying)... rather like what Wikipedia does.

Are you saying your posts are being hijacked and links added in? Ive not seen that, or had it happen to my posts. Do you have a link to a post of yours that this has happened to?

And... can you edit the hyperlink out when you see it?

Becky, shut down and re-open your computer in safe mode then run virus scans, it doesn't sound like anything here (but I'm not 100% positive) it sounds like you're computer has been hijacked.
My wife's was just recently hijacked, I wiped her hard drive and installed Win 7 after backing up her files, e-mail, settings and favorites on a thumb drive then running that thumb drive through a virus scan on my computer. I found two really nasty ones in her e-mail that her scans wouldn't pick up.

Good idea. That's why I asked for an example. I haven't seen anything strange about Becki's posts.

No, I don't see anything weird either.

Gee, I dunno, Sunshine, all of a sudden it seems to be fixed. I ran my scan twice today already, but it's just now seeming to have gone away. A while ago, I was seeing blue links in everyone's posts as well as my own.

~Thanks, big sweetie in the sky whoever you are.~ :)

Thanks guys, for fixing the problem. I went back, ran antivirus, shutdown and restarted, ran antivirus, came back and have been posting for an hour, no monkey biz.

How is this a First Amendment issue?

And I want that practice stopped. I have no desire to be held accountable for somebody using my good name and my posts on this or any other board as a cunning way to sell a product I do not care to see any of my friends financially ruined for buying it if they think it's a favor to me.
You post here anonymously, how is your good name at risk? How would you be held accountable?

Can anybody who advertises here heist the words of other posters to do this? I really don't care for it, and I would thank whoever is doing it to stop doing it.

Once you submit your post, they’re not your words anymore, they belong to the private site administrator who may do with them as he sees fit, including using the words for advertising.

If you think you are anonymous here, you are unaware that malicious conduct can be tracked to the tenth of a milimeter from where you are standing, kind sir. That's how specific today's technology is.
