Indian Affairs FAQs

Do American Indians and Alaska Natives pay taxes?Yes. They pay the same taxes as other citizens with the following exceptions:

  • Federal income taxes are not levied on income from trust lands held for them by the U.S.
  • State income taxes are not paid on income earned on a federal Indian reservation.
  • State sales taxes are not paid by Indians on transactions made on a federal Indian reservation.
  • Local property taxes are not paid on reservation or trust land.

Those are mighty big exceptions.!! Essentially injuns don't pay taxes esp since they're all on welfare anyway.

If you live in indian land you pay no taxes to the white man's whey, if you don't, you pay taxes like everyone else..

Guess you never heard of Tribal Sovereignty or how it works alongside Federal and State sovereignty. Basically the Indian Nations are "Domestic Dependent Nations" within the boarders of the united States.
