In fact, according to the House Oversight Committee, the FD-1023 in question “contains information from the FBI’s confidential human source dating back to another FD-1023 generated in 2017,” which completely removes Giuliani from the mix.

On this SEPARATE issue concerning the FBI alerting Twitter about the Ukrainian state security request to censor a long list of news sources on the U.S. internet supposedly providing Russian “disinformation,” in this case Twitter formally responded appropriately (under its old management) and there is no information provided here of Twitter “buckling” under FBI “pressure.”

The FBI was not acting like “the Gestapo” here. The Gestapo didn’t “ask.” (Here the FBI didn’t even go so far as asking.) If the FBI were like the Gestapo it could not have been politely responded to and dismissed as Twitter did, and Aaron Mate and RT would not still be available on our internet.

Not saying the FBI was right in even passing on this info, but it is hardly surprising they did so. Also, Mate is not a “fake news source” as Dragonlady says, but a Russian sympathetic “anti-imperialist” whose positions may be offensive to her (and sometimes to me) but are absolutely legitimately protected under the First Amendment. Russian state sources are a somewhat different matter, but also must be heard and allowed — Twitter was wise to simply label them as such.

We must understand that the Ukrainians have shut down all alternative information sources during their war emergency. We must absolutely not follow their example here. That would be like letting the tail wag the dog and the dog bite its master.
