Yesterday's Belmont Stakes was a very exciting race, but the winning time was VERY slow, on a fast track.
To put it in perspective, Union Rags won the Belmont in a time of 2:30.4, in a hotly contested race that came down to the wire.
Secretariat won the 1973 Belmont in 2:24 flat, and he basically raced against NOBODY the last half of the race.
6.4 seconds may not sound like much, but 6.4 seconds is the equivalent of 32 lengths!
Ironically, Secretariat won the 1973 Belmont by 31 lengths. His time beat Union Rags time by 32 lengths. This once again shows the absolute domination by Secretariat in the Belmont.
Long live the great and incomparable Secretariat! There will never be another like him.
