BRUSSELS, (PIC)-- The European Campaign to End the Siege on Gaza, one of the founding members of the Freedom Flotilla coalition, has taken initial steps to file lawsuits against the Israeli authorities for the acts of violence it committed against the international activists on board the flotilla, which left nine dead and dozens injured.

Amin Abu Rashid, a member of the European campaign, told a news briefing on Saturday, "The campaign held meetings with a team of lawyers and legal personnel to carry out immediate practical measures to prosecute responsible Israeli officials and soldiers before international courts in the Netherlands for the crimes they committed against the Freedom Flotilla in international waters."

Abu Rashid added, "The meeting explored the possibility of prosecuting Israeli leaders before international courts," suggesting that the prosecution could build a strong case against Israel, especially in light of what the legal team called "crimes against world peace," "crimes against humanity," and "criminal offenses" in light of clear violations of the organizational charters of the International Court of The Hague.

The legal team assured that its suit would be based on the fact that what Israel committed against the Freedom Flotilla would not only be prosecutable at times of peace and on unarmed vessels, but also at times of war and against armed vessels. They said that Israeli military and political officials may be prosecuted, and noted the possibility of being tried in absentia in the event of non-compliance before the court.

Six French citizens on board the Freedom Flotilla have already filed a lawsuit in France against Israeli authorities on charges of kidnapping and unjustified detention.

I thought there was no court that would be able to adjudicate this type of thing. What is poor Nic going to say now?

I have to agree with you there. Obama is going to wimp out on this whole issue.

Hate to break it to you but Israel has video evidence of THEM being attacked. Or are you claiming that the Somali Pirates are the victims of Piracy on the High Seas when the US and other Nations detain them?

You have claimed that Israel's raid was illegal because A) it could not declare a blockade and B) the raid was conducted in International waters.

Your first claim is false on its face. Israel is a Sovereign Nation which gives it all the Authority it needs to declare a blockade. Said Blockade is legal because Hamas is an enemy of Israel. Hamas has repeatedly attacked Israel. Giving Israel all the legal grounds it needs to declare and maintain a Blockade of Gaza.

Your second claim would mean that EVERY Nation engaged in hunting the Somali Pirates is in violation of supposed International rules and laws on the High Seas as they intercept, board, sink or kill Somali pirates and their craft. All done on the HIGH SEAS. International waters.

Israel has every right to enforce their blockade and can do so on the high seas if it chooses to do so. International waters have no bearing. All that has bearing is that the object of the raid is in violation of the blockade or attempting to be in violation. That is covered by the fact Israel radios the ships and they announce they intend to sail into Gaza's port.
