Fusion may someday be viable. The present fission reactors present a high degree of danger, both by the waste they produce, and the danger of a natural disaster causing a meltdown. However, I see one big thing wrong with fusion. It presents a single point source that can be disabled by natural disaster or human idiocy. Also, it means that you are dependent on it for power, and have no alternative. Distributed power, solar, wind, and geothermal spreads the money around, and makes it possible for the individual homeowner to provide his own home power, as well as fuel for his vehicles. Independence is valuable.
