In 2016, the Tesla was kind of an awesome electric car. And that's all. A regular car. People who own those older Teslas like them a lot.

Then came Musk taking control of the design. Let's check out some of the things he demanded, in the name of making it all cool and future-like.

-- Self-driving. A complete disaster, which doesn't work, at best. At worst, it suddenly takes over control from you and flings the car about randomly. And it adds $10k+ to the price.
-- A steering wheel replaced by a much less functional "yoke" thing. Elon wanted it. It's like a racing car, you know.
-- No more "stalks" for turn signals, headlights, wipers. Instead, you have to hunt for a button somewhere. The cockpit must be smooth. Elon demands it.
-- No more gearshift lever. Instead, you use the touchscreen to shift into reverse or drive. Hope you don't hit the wrong spot and end up in a lake.
-- The goddang touchscreen controls everything, for that matter. (That's not just a Tesla problem).
-- Oh, yeah, the doors that can't be opened if you drive into a lake, unless you know the verysecretspot. Elon doesn't like door handles.

Cars were designed the way they were for the last hundred years for good reason -- that design works well. But ElonTheEdgelord knows better.

(We haven't even touched on the abomination that is the CyberTruck.)
