What you mean to say is, why defer to science and reason, when fear, irrationality, and flat out falsities serve your personal politics and superstitions much better.

The Plague has been seen in Arizona and Colorado as well as Nevada and CA in the Eastern Sierras for years, it is easily treated by antibiotics.
