I thought the Dutch were all about personal freedoms.
I suppose that is easier to implement when all your citizens agree. There are others in the Netherlands that weren't thrilled with the personal freedoms of Theo van Gogh's films or the lack of restrictions on homosexuality and nudity.
I think the Dutch are making things very clear to current immigrants and those pondering emigrating: "Those who can live under our system peacefully are welcome, if you do not like the set up, this isn't the place for you." They are also placing more restrictions on people before allowing them to enter.
