A surge of undocumented immigrants seeking driver’s licenses has surprised the California Department of Motor Vehicles, pouring in at twice the rate officials expected and underscoring massive interest in the new program.

Just three months after driver’s licenses became available to immigrants living in California illegally, the product of legislation advocates had pursued fruitlessly for years before prevailing and passing Assembly Bill 60 in 2013, 493,998 have sought licenses. The number has surprised officials who spent months bracing for an influx of new customers by hiring staff, opening new DMV offices and extending hours.

“The interest in this program is far greater than anyone anticipated,” DMV Director Jean Shiomoto said in a statement.

So this ISIS dude who entered The U.S. by just walking across the border goes into a California DMV office.

He takes a number and waits patiently.

In due time (he has no job to rush off to or anything) he moves to the counter and asks for a license.

No problema! (he learned a little Spanish as part of his cover).

While he's there he also registers to vote.

Todo es hermoso!

Then he drives to an airport, buys a ticket and, using his California Driver's License as ID, boards a plane to Washington.

In this scenario who wins?

Wouldn't that depend upon what he does in Washington?

I lived in California for years. The lines at the doctors office and the Department of Motor Vehicles are ridiculous. Living in California you get the best and the worst of America. Nice weather. Only two seasons in the South. You can grow plants there that you can't grow outside in other parts of the US. But the crime is unbelievable. The traffic is insane. The homeless people are everywhere. The taxes are through the roof. The ripe-offs are everywhere. The jobs are scarce and thus so is the money. There are haves....and have nots in California. You're either barely making it or rich as shit. Their entitlement programs are better than anywhere else in America, and anyone who is crazy enough or fortunate enough to hold down a job is taxed to the nines. A pile of stucco is worth 10 times it's worth and fluctuations in the housing market causes panics by borrowers worrying about being underwater. Houses are abandoned and vagrancy is rampant. Bars are on windows to keep drug addicts from breaking in to steal everything you have.

You just get used to living in shit when you live in California.....and Democrats would love it if the rest of the country was like this.

now when the cops pull people over they can impound your car if you don't have a DL, and people who weren't in the system are now in the system, picture and all. IMO it protects drivers WITH car insurance because of that reason .... and people with a DL are more likely to get car insurance. .... I'd rather someone with insurance hit me than I had someone without insurance hit me ... and if they don't have insurance, a DL (name/address/pic) makes it easier to find them.

I live here in Palm Springs for number of years and Miami during summer. like any other states you have the same problem that you mentioned but that depends on where you live. Maybe Mud you live in rough neighborhood. I just hired 247 new employees this March in San Diego and will be opening anew branch in Boston this May. Do you need a better job Mud?
