The very second that Obama and the Dems Shutdown the government in 2013, trucks with fences and guards were at the WWII memorial closing it off to the "public". That is, the very Veterans the Memorial supposedly honored. Rather than storm the barricades and trample them underfoot, these elderly gentlemen, some on the very last trip of their lives, were turned away.

In 2018 Dems have pledged their alligence to Illegals and have again shut the government down. However, this time, a Pro American President has determined that the Monument and parks will stay open.

Does this one act capture the essential differences in the parties?

??? were there reasons to shut the parks and memorials?
Security. The biggest danger, graffiti, and teenage skateboarders. Graffiti is self-explanatory, but the skateboarders do permanent and irreparable damage. Of course, regular malicious vandalism is a problem also.

---------------------------------------------------------- don't think so , thats in reply to the Memorials in Washington D.C. . As far as other Parks and Memorials, there mighta been health and safety reasons that the newish crop of 'millenials' [wusses] would say were legitimate . Actually it was 'mrobama' just being his usual pwick self though Rosie .

A group of veterans maintains a 24-hour information booth ar the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Also, it is a place were volunteers and supporters who patrol the Memorial congregate, etc. Go down and hang out with them some time and educate yourself. Stop pretending like you know everything about everything.

Republicans want to hide the effects of the shutdown from the public

FU Frank. Vietnam Veterans Memorial has been vandalized lots of times. Volunteers help prevent it from happening more than it does. Stop mocking the relatives of the people who have comrades and their loved one's names on the Memorial Wall.

[Poll Question:] Does the WWII Memorial during Shutdowns capture the difference in the Parties

No. It can't. The WWII Memorial captures the triumphs and tribulations of American WWII fighters. It does so existentially and regardless of whether the government is shutdown.

Problem with the security of these Memorials and Monuments is they are in the open on the Mall and susceptible to vandalism and disrespect without some minimum amount of security.

Yes, mutilation can happen and though I don't know whether it has (and I'm not googling national monument vandalism), I presume it has happened at least once. Is it a frequent occurrence? No, not at all. The Park Police patrol the monuments at night and during the day, but at either hour, it's not as though their presence is so abundant that they would be able to prevent acts of exterior vandalism.

What hypocrisy!

Trump brags about keeping monuments open while he closes and sells off national monuments around the country
