Remember back during the height of the iraq war, when thousands of screaming leftwingers in demonstrations in america and europe were outraged at Bush's effort to remove Hitler Lite, and they kept telling us that afghanistan was where we really should be fighting, it was the correct war, iraq had nothing to do with 9-11, etc etc etc.

Now, they've successfully pushed obama into withdrawing troops from afghanistan, and their only complaint is he doesn't plan to do it fast enough for their liking.

That's because we got Bin Laden. After Republicans let him go and forgot about him. Guess you forgot too.

Bin Laden has never been a real issue - he was just a figurehead, and now he has martyr status. He just been replaced by the apparently highly intelligent and more aggressive number two man. Al qaeda got nowhere much after 9/11 because Bush went after al qaeda infrastructure, bank accounts, communications. And lefties were looking for their infamous "exit strategy" long before osama was bumped off.

"Just a figurehead" who planned 9/11. Nobody really. No one of note. No one we need to concern ourselves with.

Yea, right.

Four suicide bombers struck underground trains and a bus during peak rush hour. The attacks occurred on the same day the G8 summit was scheduled to begin in Scotland. Several groups, including the Abu-Hafs al-Masri Brigade and a group calling itself "The Secret Organization of Al Qaeda in Europe," have claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Do right wingers ever bother to go look stuff up? Seriously, is their world completely invented from whole cloth?

I'm talking about NOW, not ten years ago, but nice dodge attempt.

Osama didn't plan that.

Why don't you "look up" that alqaeda is now basically autonomous franchises? Your perception is a decade out of date.

No, but your analysis of current events is apparently made up entirely of vapor; there is little real substance in it. To start with, killing Bin Laden, while satisfying retribution from our point of view, is NOT the end of the war he started on 9/11. While you and others were obsessing over that, Al Quaeda has formed a number of franchises, over which Bin Laden had no effective operational control for the past seven years or more. We now have the task of rooting out all of these franchises and affiliates, in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, and elsewhere. Much to your dismay, I'm sure, the Iran franchise is pretty much defunct, thanks to the U.S. Military. That war you hated did have the consequence of concentrating some really bad characters in a place where we could meet them, and eliminate them over there, BEFORE having to deal with them over here; an ounce of prevention, and all that.

Now, as usual, the Left wants to leave the job half done, and cut and run from Afghanistan before we finish the job we are doing there! I hate to point this out (again), but if you people had let us finish the job in Vietnam, instead of abandoning the conflict and handing the North Vietnamese a victory they never won on the battlefield, groups like Al Quaeda would not have been encouraged to believe they could effectively wage asymmetric war against America. Thanks for providing them with the model for doing so, peaceniks! Tell me, other than the ideological kind, what the hell has the left shown us it knows about commitment-you know, that little thing about finishing a job you start? Just once, I'd like to see you in favor of this country finishing the military operations it starts, instead of bitching every time something can't be finished in a week, antiseptically, and with no casualties. You as a group, have, without a doubt, the most unrealistic view of warfare that I have ever seen. This ain't chess or tiddlywinks, it ain't cheap, it takes time and patience, and the sooner you stop being critics and start actually being doers for a change, the sooner we'll get it over with. How about, you stop looking for partisan advantage in everything, and start actually putting your country first, for a change?

If the right had put "America" first, we never would have invaded Iraq and they would have taken out Bin Laden instead of letting him go.

Besides, when right wingers say, "Put American first", we both know they only mean Americans making over a million a year.

More partisan hackery? Why am I not surprised? The hunt for Bin Laden NEVER stopped, as you'd have us believe; other, more pressing concerns move to the top of the list, but the hunt went on, and the record indicates that the leads which ultimately led to the raid on his compound began developing well before your "Anointed One" took office, so don't play fast and loose with the facts.

By the way, I thought the Left's definition of the "hated rich" was any American making over $200,000 a year-isn't that what Kerry said? Isn't that what Obama said? Why as a matter of fact, it is, and the quotes to prove it are easily documented! Has the concept become more elastic now, or is this latest figure the nose of the proverbial camel, calculatedly shrunk just enough to slip into the tent? I trust your side, not quite as far as I can spit, because of a long, long track record or lies, half truths and distortions, of which you have gratuitously provided two more examples, without even bothering to respond to the points I made. This is why, you have been, are, and always will be, a distinct minority of the American electorate, which manages to pull the wool over the eyes of just enough of the voting sheeple every decade or two, only to fail miserably (as usual) after doing so. Same old discredited ideology, same old tired mantras, same old failed policies; you people are living proof that no truly wretched idea ever really dies (though I have hopes of putting a stake through the heart of the thing yet!).

I am having a hard time understanding why sending men, uninvited, into a non-combatant nation to murder someone is not considered "state sponsored terrorism". I should think that such a nation ought not be entitled to U.S. taxpayers dollars.

Now there's a heartfelt appeal for NO federal taxes!

No one was "murdered"; the U.S. Navy SEALs were dispatched to execute a criminal who happened to be outside the reach of law enforcement. Said criminal is now fish food. You don't like that? TOUGH! Mr. Bin Laden (the deceased) unilaterally declared war on America. This was America's response.

There having been no trial, no conviction and no sentence then it remains state-sponsored terrorism. Too late now for a trial. Under your conditions it would have been OK for Ho Chi Min to have sent a hit squad to eliminate Lyndon B. Johnson. Or, perhaps, for Adlolph Hitler to have sent in a team to eliminate FDR. Not that these might not have been good thing sin the greater scheme but if you accept the one you have accepted the others.

Afganistan should have just lasted a few mopnths and we pull out with the warning to AQ that mess with us again and we will be back, instead we got wrapped up in nation building.

Iraq? We should never have invaded there at all and yes iraq had nothing to do with 911 as our military and Bush even said.

Osama bin Laden is gone. The tallyban has been replaced with a semi-functional puppet government. What more do you want? As long as we control the airspace, we're good.

I think there's usually a distinction between elected officials, guerrilla groups, and military targets. Ghadafi and LBJ are in the first category while OBL fits somewhere in the last two.

This is also why Israel will not assassinate Meeshal of Hamas but happily targets his Qassam Brigade.

What? Do you seriously think Hitler would not have tried to assassinate FDR, had it been possible to do so? Do you seriously think FDR would not have ordered a team to assassinate Hitler, had it been feasible? As for Uncle Ho trying to kill Johnson, why try to kill your enemy, when his stupidity is actually helping your cause? In any case, there is no valid reason (logically, anyway) to make leadership targets "off limits" (especially when you can do it with some level of "plausible deniability"). Where the hell did you get the thoroughly stupid idea that there is any "morality" in what is fundamentally an amoral activity? Once upon a time, kings used to lead their armies in battle; I see no reason the elected variety should not share a bit of the risk with the troops they send into battle these days. Since when is a CinC's life more sacrosanct than that of any soldier? That is NOT the attitude I expect of a commander!

By the way, since Bin Laden had "admitted" his crimes, even bragged about them, there was no need for a trial, and besides, in war, you kill the enemy when and where you find him. Not only was he not the "head" of any recognized state, he was an unlawful combatant, without protected standing under the Geneva Convention (I suggest those of you who endlessly prattle about that dubious document actually read the damn thing!)

No, they shot him in cold blood. If he had been a black guy in an american city, libs would be screeching like stuck pigs.

so ?...the left/right hypocrisy doesn't change the truth
