Dunno about him leaving men on the battlefield to die, but I DO know that confirming Mattis is gonna be hard, because he has to have at least 60 votes to get confirmed due to his needing a waiver.

That's where the nuclear option applies. Meaning his confirmation will be a breeze. Any vote that requires 60 can be whittled down to 51 with the flick of a pen. And I assume it can be triggered for special legislation, too.
