Do you 99% envy what the 1% have or do you resent what the 1% has?

The 1% have more then the 99%. If you are in the 99% do you

  • want what the 1% has taken away from them

  • I envy what they have but don't want it taken from them

    Votes: 2 20.0%
  • I am envious but am motivated to have what they have

I want the 1% to pay their share and stop being tax dollar moochers!!!

There is no hard evidence that people with a ton of money are any happier than those in the middle class.

As a result of their tax dollar mooching I do resent the tax increases that their preferential treatment brings on to others.

Hey you are right regarding the chances!

BUT evidently the difference between you and me is I'm at least trying.. been trying for 50 years..haven't got there but in trying I have even in failures created entities that created jobs for people, created learning experiences that helped expand successful entities .. one of which I am sure you have seen if you've ever been in a doctor's office!

I work hard in a job that pays me quite well.

The reason I will never be part of the 1% is because:

I didn't have an inheritence,
Even with the GI bill, I couldn't afford to go to an Ivy league school,
and I don't have the cut-throat demeanor to cheat other people out of money to enrich myself.

Sure, there are exceptions out there that pull themselves up from nothing, but they are 1% of 1% of 1%. For every 1 Steve Jobs, there are 100 Mitt Romneys.

So, again, the deck is stacked against you.

But, all that being said, my wife and I are in the top 20% of income earners, and I'm ok with that. I don't see any reason to bite and claw my way to the top.

I don't really envy anyone who is in the top 1 percent.

Seems that having that much money turns a person into a heartless douche.

Me? I'd rather live humbly and be happy, you learn more that way.

How many people do you personally know that are:
1) in the top 1 percent and of them
2) are heartless douches?

OR are you a pawn of the MSM constantly creating negativity because as the adage in journalism "if it bleeds, it leads"..

Personally I know some 1% people and frankly without them millions of people would be hungry tonite. Millions of people would have NO jobs. Millions of people would die, literally in that without their philanthropy thousands of hospitals would never exist!
Millions of people would have NEVER read a book without Carnegie building libraries.
Millions of students would NOT have an education without those 1% benefactors.
And these are just the people WE hear about!
Millions of people have been helped silently by benefactors that don't want to be known!

I think you have been influenced by watching too much TV soap operas!
You may want to get a life!

I first came across those in the 1 percent when my Aunt Laurie married an insurance salesman for NY Life and moved to Foxfarm Road (the place where all the extremely rich people lived in Great Falls Mt). Used to have a girlfriend there (visited my aunt on the weekends) who was really into me up until her parents found out that I actually lived in Vaughn (farming town 10 miles out), and then she quit seeing me.

Also had a chance to hang out with a lot of 1 percenters while I was stationed at Newport RI (EXCEEDINGLY wealthy place where a lot of 1 percenters are, especially in the summer time as all the wealthy people have summer homes there) for 4 years, because I was pretty active in the community as well as was part of a bicycle group out there.

Nope.........my experience with the 1 percent is based on meeting them in high school and being around them over the 20 years that I served in the U.S. Navy.

Like I said.............most of the 1 percenters are heartless pricks.

Ya know, when you see a whole class of people as heartless pricks, a wise person would look within. Could there be something about YOU that causes people to react to you that way?

There is a big big distinction here.
If you envy what the 1% have, that's fine .. not a problem.
BUT if you resent what the 1% has and want what they have taken from them that's a problem.

Funny how they all "envy."

No wonder why they're such losers - they spend more time envy others for what they have instead of focusing on themselves and their progress in life.

Besides what is it exactly that they want that the "rich" have anyways??

I don't want anything they have..... I don't need a yacht, 100k car, jewelry a 3 million dollar 15 room house etc...

Personally, I do not care

What I do question is why we continue to help them if they are so wealthy? They seem perfectly capable of making money without government subsidies and assistance

What if you are part of the 1%?

I notice you're referring to the 99% as "you".

Are you a multi-millionaire then?

Because if you're not, then you are part of the 99%.

And if you're not already there, there's a 99% percent chance that you will never be one of the 1%.

And THAT is the problem.

lets see...tell that to google employes, and Intel employes, IBM employes...zerox....Microsoft....Ben and Jerry.... shall i continue?

the chance IS there..... the problem comes when the 99% are pissed it was not them....

What I would like to see is more results dependent tax cuts for the wealthy

In the past, we have given tax cuts in the hopes that more jobs would be created. I would rather see the jobs first and give the tax cut. If you are not creating jobs......nada

No one should get subsidies....

Quite frankly all this bailout bullshit is what you get when government has a stake in big business...

I was against all the bailouts and stimulus'.

I'll tell you what tho - there are plenty of politicians and big business fools who want to continue to play grab-ass....

You want to see who they are??? go look at who got either a) a bailout or b) Obamacare waivers or both... That will give you a good idea as to who is in the governments pocket.

Either way the government is just as responsible as the corporations are for all this nonsense, yet the same people bitching about all this 1% shit LOVE THE GOVERNMENT, and those that aren't in love with the government only dislike the government because the government hasn't gone full blown socialist and hasn't confiscated and redistributed assets yet..

Sometimes i envy them. I'd like to have some of the cool shit that they have, but I don't resent them at all.

I love the way the lunatics here make general assumptions about the so-called 1%. They function on falsehoods and their whole argument is based on what they should know is a lie. They believe that all of the 1% got there because they simply inherited their money. They also believe falsely, that the reason they aren't rich themselves is because those people have all the money. It's absurd nonsense.

I'm not in the 1%, but I'm well in the upper middle class. I could have been one of the evil stinking rotten filthy rich. There are many times in my life that I can point to where I made a decision that prevented me from being richer, skipping a large portion of High School to surf being one of them.

Now, I have enough money to travel, to put my kids in private school, and to drive nice cars. there have been opportunities for me that I have passed up simply because I don't want to work that hard any more.

My hat's off to the 1%ers (who actually pay more than their fair share of taxes btw).

I'm not envious and I want everyone to keep as much of their own money as possible.

I agree with you here...

I think the biggest problem is they believe that wealth is finite... Like wealth is a bag of M&M's and the 1% get 95% of the bag while the 99% gets 5% of the bag...

They obviously are ignorant to the basics of economics, such as microeconomics.

I'm sure there are quite a few that are just ignorant, however I bet many hate the rich because they were brainwashed with Marxist propaganda..

I think many believe hard work and effort shouldn't play a roll in compensation for success and resources should be distributed equally regardless of who you are..

That's not only unconstitutional - It's dangerous, but that I suppose is a whole new thread.

I admire people for a multitude of reasons but I've never envied anyone. Everyone has problems. Even the rich and beautiful. True story.

The Bible teaches "thou shalt not covet" Never have. Not even in the 7th grade. And when I meet jealous people, middle school comes to mind,

As long as they got it legally. I'm surprised there aren't more fraud cases being brought after the Wall St. meltdown. After all, there's really a 4th choice you didn't offer, i.e. some of the 1% are criminals and should be prosecuted and all their ill-gotten gains taken.

If more working Americans could get a bigger share of the production of this country, their lives might be better. The ability of a small number at the top to rake in vast amounts of that production for themselves doesn't make things better.
