The Irish community in New Zealand have been angered by reports in The Press newspaper that blamed Irish fans for drunk and disorderly behaviour at the second Test match between Ireland and New Zealand in Christchurch last Saturday.
Senior Sergeant Scott Banfield, head of Christchurchs team policing unit, was quoted saying that most of the troublemakers at the match were Irish supporters who demonstrated they cant handle alcohol.
A local newspaper for the Irish community The Irish Champion and the Facebook group Irish People Living in New Zealand have condemned the report as an unfair generalisation, supported by comments left on both sites by Irish fans who were at Saturdays game.
Were you at the match? Do you think the report was fair? As an Irish person living abroad in any country, do you think we live up to our drunken stereotype? Have your say in the comments section below.
