...that's what we used to call them, though I've heard them called blackjacks, slapjacks, and slappers.

You hardly ever hear about them anymore, but before tazers, asps and batons, this was the less than lethal weapon of choice for law enforcement everywhere...

I used some banding material and some lead weights, scrap leather and waxed thread. Bent a piece of the banding material in half so it is doubled up to make the handle firm but also springy. It doesn't go all the way to end of the handle to leave room for a grommet to add a retention strap.

This project required minimal specialty tools and about an hours worth of work that wasn't sanding or burnishing the edges...which is still ongoing.

That's a classic.

I have plenty of left over banding material...I might make one in that style.

Your dad a former Lawman?
opposite,, town asshole,, he was 6'4" and not to be trifled with,,

he saw no use in fighting and always talked about ending things before they got started,,

a solid thump on the forehead with that thing and your day is ruined,,

That right there gives me a devilishly good/bad idea.

Shame I can't use it...I just don't think the jury would get it.

a jury only counts if you get caught,,

back in the 70s they closed down our red light district on 12 st so all the hookers moved up close to us,,
when a few of them started trolling the side streets my dad gave us a few dozen eggs and told us to get rid of the hookers,,

it took a few times but they never came back,,

problem solved,,
