Did you know that disposable coffee cups CANNOT be recycled? And I am not only talking about styrofoam type cups. It's the everyday cups that you get from your morning coffee shop.
I just read that most disposable coffee cups are constructed with an inner-liner that consists of a low-density polyethylene plastic liner. This product cannot currently be recycled by recycling facilities, and therefore ends up in the landfills.
I hit my local coffee shop every morning, and have been throwing this cup in the recycle bin! I am sure that the sorter down at the local recycling facilty sees a ton of these cups come through.
It was pretty staggering to read the facts about how many of these cups are hitting our landfills. The data certainly warrants buying a re-usable cup. I know that there is an environmental impact associated with manufacturing these cups, but I read that the impact breaks even after 20 or so uses.
Any additional feedback or data on this would be appreciated.
