Some think it was because he supporting immigration reform. I suspect that's the real reason.
Others think it's because this is the worst congress in history and even Republicans finally had enough. They want someone there who will do their job. I think this is laughable, but it is one theory put forward.
Some think it was because Cantor spent more on steak dinners for his minions than his opponent spent on his entire campaign. I doubt it. Republicans don't want money wasted on disabled veterans and lunches for poor children. Rich people buying steak dinners, they highly approve.
