Though, at times like this it is good to see governors honoring the agreements in place among the state Adjutant Generals across the country, to respond to requests from other states in time of crises.

Nobody was going to fund the wall if border crossings were at their lowest level in 50 years. So Trump set about creating a crisis at the Southern Border, so he could be the hero who resolved it by building his wall.

His first move was to stop all prosecutions of companies employing illegals. Once the prosecutions stopped, the “now hiring” signs went up in the meat packing plants, and illegal border crossings started rising.

When Trump threatened to close the southern border, those in peril decided to make the trip immediately while the border remain open.

By 2019, illegal crossings and spiked to record numbers, Trump declared a national emergency at the southern border, which is still in effect, and Congress gave him funding to build his stupid wall.

Closing the border completely increased human trafficking, and the number of people crossing the border illegally, since there was no legal means by which they could enter.

Trump went on TV and railed against the human traffickers and the coyotes and the misery along the southern border, using the squallor, disease and misery he created to gin up, fear and paranoia about the ”invaders” trying to get into the country.

It has taking the Biden administration two years to rebuild and replace all of the immigrant support programs, intake programs, courts, and federal support programs for border communities and ports of entry, that Trump dismantled and replaced with for-profit prison camps for refugees.

Since the end of Title 42, Immigrants are entering the country and being processed in an orderly way. They’re actually using their smart phones to make appointments to enter the country and be processed, despite problems with the software.

And illegal border crossings are melting away. Chaos and dysfunction is being replaced with an orderly system along the border. When immigrants have a legal way into the country, they have no reason to pay smugglers or coyotes.

It’s been sad to watch the gleeful anticipation of conservatives on this forum and in right wing media, that lifting title 42 would be “Joe Biden’s Waterloo”.

Inflation is going down, wages are going up, more jobs are being created, the border crisis has been dealt with, infrastructure is being rebuilt, poverty is being reduced.
