Dems defend Reid as expected.

As stated by many of the Senators supporting him, Reid has a record of trying to help minorities and the poor. He made a stupid comment that does not erase all the good he has done. I must ask, do you think his comments = Lotts comments
Lott's comments are only relevant in the context of the left's reaction to someone saying something dumb, when they don't happen to carry that (D) by their name, versus the reaction when it's one of their own stepping on his dick.

Moreover, Lott's comments were a shameless butt kiss at at private birthday party for a 100-year old man, while Reid's gaffe was out in front of God and everyone.

No, Lott's statements were an expression of his beliefs. Reid's were an observation of others' beliefs.

CONSERVATIVE George Will, in a moment of lucidity:

I don't think there's a scintilla of racism in what Harry Reid said. At long last, Harry Reid has said something that no one can disagree with, and he gets in trouble for it.

The point is not over whether or not what he said is true...It is in fact true.

The point is that if anyone who didn't have the (D) by their name had said the same thing, they'd have been roasted on a spit by both the democratics and the media by now.

See: Rush Limpbag's comment about media treatment of Donovan McNabb.

Which is a classic logical fallacy and not relevant. Although you've stumbled on the truth here. This is not about Reid being racist, this is about rightwingers seizing an opportunity, albeit a poor one, to try to turn the tables on those who went after their guy, Lott, and/or whoever else got Lott-ed.

That is the whole point. If some Republican had been caught saying the exact same thing in the exact same way, the Democrats would be shitting a storm and demanding their head on a platter. Obama would be demanding more then just an apology. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson would be calling for rallies and boycotts.

And the same people in this thread DEFENDING Reid would be screaming for whom ever said it to be drawn and quartered.

There's no fallacy at all.

There's a double standard being applied here and anyone with a shred of intellectual honesty (which obviously excludes you) can see it.

which one said NEGRO?

Nuff said

Would someone PLEASE break down Lott's comment as racially derogatory? What is it that he said that was pointed at another race?

Harry DOESN'T believe there is 'negro dialect?'

I believe we should consult the bullshit meter on that one...

can you break down exactly what he said as opposed to exactly what you think he said. And while you're at it, will you please explain how you can read Mr. Lott's mind?

spoken like a true racist liberal apologist

You got Bubba Clinton talking about the good old days when Obama would have been his servant!

Yeah and in your "good old days" Frederick Douglas was never even considered, either, was he, nor any number of other extremely well qualified and brilliant men of color, and varying shades of THAT.... over the years..

Thurgood Marshall comes to mind.... Walter White also comes to mind, had he chosen politics. So does Edward Brooke!

Then there was Colin Powell, and he basically told the country that that job wasn't worth putting up with the bullshit it would put him and his family through...
