It looks like Democrats are not being in touch with the America that they need to win the White House in 2020. They seem to have become so wrapped up in their own abnormalities, that have become detached from the masses (that great red expanse in the South, Midwest, and West).
Have they not comes to terms with what got Donald Trump elected in 2016 ? Sure, appealed to rust belt workers was important. Appealing to Christians and economy watchers was too. But probably, more than anything else, what got Trump elected in 2016, was his speech about Mexico, when he said > "When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you. They’re not sending you. They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people."
This one paragraph struck a familiar chord with the American people, and made an instant hero out of Trump, to the masses, who have been longing for someone to take Mexico and US backers of illegal immigration to task, for their reckless, open-borders policies.
So now Trump is advocating a merit based system of immigration, emphasizing business capital, skills and talents that America could benefit from. A no-brainer. And what are Democrats doing ? They're opposing it, and it's not likely to pass in the Democrat House of Representitives.
Some people think Trump is proposing this just to get Democrats to oppose it, and thereby ruin their chances for a Democrat win in 2020 (if they ever had a chance to begin with). In a speech in the White House Rose Garden, Trump said >> “Today we are presenting a clear contrast. Democrats are proposing open borders, lower wages and, frankly, lawless chaos. We are proposing an immigration plan that puts the jobs, wages and safety of American workers first. Our proposal is pro-American, pro-immigrant and pro-worker. It’s just common sense.”
