Democrat makes history in House seat for District 85

democrats are celebrating an upset from Tuesday night.

For the first time ever, democrats hold a seat for House District 85, which includes part of The Village, Nichols Hills, and Quail Creek.

Cyndi Munson beat republican challenger Chip Carter with 54% of the vote…even though Carter raised nearly twice as much money.

Munson is a first generation college student with a Political Science degree, and recently worked as a community programs manager with the Girl Scouts of Oklahoma.

Her seat was previously held by David Bank, who passed away in April. His wife, Odelia, and current Governor Mary Fallin were also previous house members for that district.

Munson ran on an education platform, and says she also supports her predecessors commitment to tax credit reform.

Ran on Education!!! People want infrastructure, science, r&d investment, education and the safetynet. Do you really believe you're doing what people want by threatening to cut these?
