Debunking the Sandy Hook Debunkers

By Jack Cashill
January 21, 2013

During the age of Obama, the major media have gone fully AWOL. If they fear that their reporting will lead to inconvenient discoveries, they simply stop their advance, lay down their notebooks, and disappear. This trend began in the Clinton years and picked up momentum after the 1994 electoral debacle, but the Clintons at least worried that the media might turn on them.

If Barack Obama ever had any such anxiety, the nonreporting on Fast and Furious, Benghazi and now Sandy Hook has had to reassure him. Sandy Hook is particularly disturbing because the truth is, or at least should have been, so accessible. This tragedy should never have spawned anything like a conspiracy theory, but it obviously has.

Protecting the major media's flank during retreat are many and sundry well-funded leftist blogs -- Huffington Post, The Daily Kos, Media Matters, and TPM among others. While the major media withdraw, the blogs attack those who might challenge the "narrative" the majors have left behind.

A case in point is a recent multi-media Huffington Post piece titled "Sandy Hook Conspiracy Theory Video Debunked By Experts." In the video intro, HuffPo editor Meredith Bennett-Smith laughingly dismisses the various alternate theories of what transpired at Sandy Hook. Says Bennett-Smith, "That is what conspiracy theorists love to do. They put out a lot of questions, but they don't necessarily provide a lot of answers." When there is a Democrat in the White House, alas, anyone who asks a question becomes a conspiracy theorist.

Like too many alleged fact checkers, Bennett-Smith addresses only the least significant of the challenges to the Sandy Hook narrative: the alleged use of crisis actors, the memorials that predated the shooting, the confusion about what weapon was in Adam Lanza's trunk. The "experts" she promises in the headline turn out to be other Obama-friendly fact checkers like David Mikkelson, founder of Snopes, and Robert Blaskiewicz, editor of a comparable blog called Skeptical Humanities. Absent in the piece is anyone who knows anything about guns or police work.

Predictably, what the HuffPo piece does not address are the two most troubling inconsistencies in the Sandy Hook reporting: the nature of the guns used and the presence or absence of a second shooter. Both questions have gained importance because of the White House's obvious political exploitation of a ginned up "assault weapon" hysteria.

As to the guns, on December 15, one day after the shooting, NBC's chief justice correspondent Pete Williams spoke with Today Show host Matt Lauer. Williams shared "new information" from a "couple of federal officials and state officials." Said Williams, "They say now that there were actually four handguns recovered inside the school, not just two as we were initially told; four handguns and apparently only handguns that were taken into the school." (Italics mine)

Williams said that Lanza also brought an "assault style, AR-15 style rifle" with him to school, but, he added, "We have been told by several officials that he left that in the car." In the days that followed, the story would shift to the AR-15, not as the exclusive weapon -- two handguns remained in the story -- but as "the primary weapon used in the attack." On December 19, CNN reported, "Police say Lanza's rifle used numerous 30-round magazines." By January 6, the Hartford Courant was reporting that Lanza used the handguns only to shoot himself.

If you ask most Americans on the street if their government could perpetrate such a thing to advance an agenda..........you will get an overwhelming YES.

The State Police said a Bushmaster was recovered in the school. If the coroner says the victims were shot with the weapon, well there ya' go.

Still waiting for Security Video of the shooting though.

Ruby Ridge and Waco did not happen in an empty planet. Most noted, drew conclusions and moved on.

But it has been demonstrated that there isnt any thing too violent and contrived for some Federal officials.

Jack Cashill has the luxury of writing for a generation of rightwing voters who don't know history.

He has the luxury of writing for a generation of people who don't know that Nixon was the original conspiracy theorist. He strategically used the myth of the "Liberal, Jew run media" to intimidate the press from investigating his crimes.

Republicans have always used to myth of "liberal media bias" as a strategy to intimidate the free press. Movement Conservatism has its own TV station and a monopoly on radio - whereas the Liberals have one block of programming on MSNBC.

Meanwhile the NYT rolled over for Bush on the eve of the 2004 election by supporting the war and not reporting the domestic surveillance program.

The establishment media is run by 10 mega-corporations that want tax cuts, that is, they are hostile to the liberal agenda. This is why you never hear stories about Labor; nor are there any stories about why Obama is considered a radical when his economic team is lead by free market Wall Street guys The only reason the liberal hating mainstream media allows one small block of liberal programming on MSNBC is because advertisers want to reach the other half of the country.

Why has the media been silent on the most activist Supreme Court we have ever had. With Citizens United they handed the electoral process to whomever has the largest wallet - thereby disenfranchising the anyone who cannot afford to buy an election.

And where has the media been on deregulation of the derivative market? This was the dream of the Reagan Revolution - to get government off the backs of Wall Street.

And where has the media been on the slow death of unions and the end of the American working class at the hands of a corporate class that would rather get its labor from dictator-run, freedom-hating tyrannical nations. (This is where you have to educate Republicans. They don't understand that ever since Reagan said the tax cuts would turn into good jobs, the wealthy have been shipping jobs to sweatshops. You also need to educate Republicans on the fact that Nike investors make more profit when their sneakers are made in South Korean sweatshops where workers make $4 a day. Does the press talk about this? Nope - because the wealthy own the press.)

And where was Cashill when intelligence was cherry picked to start the Iraq War. Anyone who questioned Bush was labeled a crazy conspiracy theorist by rightwing attack dogs like Cashill. This guy is a joke. And he also doesn't understand political power. There will be no meaningful gin legislation. The NRA and Republican forces aligned against even minor changes to back ground checks are not outsiders to Washington Power. They are Washington Power. They own government.

There will be no gun legislation.

We now live in a word of crazy conspiracy theories - not about Sandy Hook but about how Obama is coming to kill grandma and take yer guns.

God help us.

Wait, wait, wait, so let me get this straight.
The media is run by people who will do anything to get ratings. Even if that means not reporting on something.

Got it.
Welcome to America, motherfucker.

Yes the media is owned now, for the most part, by companies that get increased profit from the demise of unions, but the unions did alot of this to themselves when they started putting business majors in charge and not rank and file members who have walked the walk. Unions turned their backs on the rest of US workers and started cutting deals for union members only and started swallowing a bunch of Marxist agit-prop.

No one is saying Obama is coming to do anything of the sort.

He is putting in place policies that will eventually arrive at the disarming of the citizenry and also the government dictating what medical services it has the resources to pay for; so if you arent likely to live much longer based on actuarial stats, then you dont get life saving treatment, but an easing of your planned death instead.

We know this from what is already happening where socialists have taken over elsewhere.
