Dear Richard Martinez

Damn right it's a phallic substitution. If my dick could kill a mugger or remove tyranny I wouldn't need a gun. So until I evolve the ability to shoot armor piercing money shots, I'm just going to need to keep a gun or two.

No one's right to own a firearm is infringed if they have to prove they're qualified to own one when they buy one.

I'll accept "sensible gun control" when the same standards are used for every other right. Background checks to buy books. Three to seven day waiting period before access to legal counsel after an arrest. Limits on how much one can petition to redress grievances.

It's only common sense.

Common sense to most sane people is knowing the difference between a machine gun and 'The Old Man and the Sea'.

Common sense is also knowing the difference between The Old Man And The Sea and The Turner Diaries. Ideas are dangerous in the wrong hands. Don't you want to keep your children safe?

that's nice.... luckily the second amendment doesn't prohibit denying guns to criminals and people who are mentally ill. isn't that cool?

i just wish the radical right were as protective of the first, fourth and fifth amendments.

I'm a Bill of Rights absolutist. I like all ten, not just the ones that are politically expedient this week, thank you very much.

They do. What's the qualification to buy a copy of 'The Old Man and the Sea"?

Was making child pornography illegal a free press/free speech abridgement, Mr. Absolutist?

LOL I find that humorous for some reason, perhaps it's because the entire "Obama's gonna take my guns" scare is the biggest joke the gun lobby ever played, and the most profitable.

yes. but since when has anything they say been true?

He fucked up because the qualification to buy a book is the ability to pay for it, and yes, people have to meet that qualification.

Yes they are rather quick to place restrictions on other things in the constitution that seem scary. Being ruled by fear must really suck.

Can you guys back that up instead of just regurgitating it? How is the right quick to place restrictions to the Constitution?

you people can laugh all you want

the majority of the people aren't still cultish when it comes to your Dear Liar, who said don't worry, YOU can keep your plans if you like your plans

it's us who laughs at you for tying to pretend the man isn't a liar who would love nothing more than to take our guns from us

Every setback to free speech, civil equality and privacy has been engineered by the right. Every advance has been over their "dead bodies" so to speak. Their track record on dealing with mass protest is especially conditional on who is doing it.

You belong to the cult of the gun and have swallowed so many lies without question that you are rightly seen as a single issue voting fool.

Did you lose your health insurance?

You just puked up more shit instead of backing it up.

Joe, you have little room to lecture me about class. Your party took the time to politicize the deaths of children to push your gun control agenda. I don't really care about the 2nd Amendment right now, or the fact you want to destroy it. I am incensed that anyone would be so irreverent to use the death of someone to push a political agenda.

You believe that anyone who dies at the barrel of a gun makes your screeds against others rights sacrosanct. They don't. Unlike you, I can delineate between a father's grief and his desire to turn death into politics. It is personally appalling to see how a man thought of his son so little, that instead of taking the time to mourn, he took the time to use his son as a weapon; just as the shooter used his to inflict this carnage.

No, I have plenty of class. Enough class to respect the dead and not use them as political tools, which apparently this father did not learn.

So pipe down and do not lecture me.

TK, your lack of class is duly noted.

He should be mad at the NRA. THe NRA Has fought tooth and nail against background checks, waiting periods or any other kind of sensible gun control that would have kept this clearly disturbed person from buying a gun.
California has waiting periods.

How did that work out for the shopkeepers in Koreatown who had their businesses sacked, during the 1992 L.A. riots?

worked out pretty good. They all got big checks from the government and insurance companies.

Of course, they weren't in "Korea-Town". They had shops in the black hoods that regularly overcharged and ripped off their customers, which is why they were the easy target for some vent up rage.

Joebitch, your dependable and endless supply of sanctimony and hypocrisy is noted.

Mr. Martinez has every right to grieve and he can even blame the NRA if that's of comfort to him. But, no. He "should" not be mad at the NRA. THa's just your cheap use of a tragedy to support your idiotic laughable liberal crap agenda.

No. The real blame lies not with the NRA, politicians or the 2d Amendment. It lies with the mental health of the now deceased killer.
